That wasn’t the point of his article. He wasn’t writing from a proselytizing point of view. If he had done so, It would have unnecessarily driven a wedge between the two groups, making it an unwise choice on French’s part. Thankfully, he stuck to the facts.
It isn’t necessary to throw ourselves in front of every passing truck.
