Jesus' tatements concerning Sodom were pointing out the following:
1. There will be a parallel between Sodom's destruction and Jerusalem's (following a common theme throughout scripture re: divine judgments).
2. The parallel includes people in both cities not repenting in response to prophetic preaching.
3. Both cities would remain unaware of the finality of their impending doom until it was too late.
4. The doom would be extensive and "total".
5. Only the righteous (those who heed the preaching) would be able to escape, because they were not unaware of the impending doom.
