Discipleship is rarely mentioned or explained.
Here it is in a nutshell.
Acts 11:26
25Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: 26And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people.
And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
A Christian and a disciple are the same thing. If you want to be a Christian look what Jesus said.
Luke 9:23-24
23And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him
deny himself, and take up his cross
daily, and follow me. 24For whosoever will
save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will
lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Luke 14:26-27
25And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, 26If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also,
he cannot be my disciple. 27And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
So to be a Christian/Disciple is about taking Jesus as
OUR MASTER.
It is about
US following
HIM. Living close to him and keeping his commandments.
If we come to him with this understanding we can be baptized into his name.
