I haven't read all the posts here and I really don't have the time to wade in the way I would like to but I'll at least tell you what I tell HeavenlyOne all the time...
The perfect church does not exist, there is no perfect pastor, there are no perfect people. If there were such a thing as a perfect church, it would become imperfect the minute one of us set foot in the door.
Do we go to church for people or do we go to church for God?
Am I saying you have to go to a UPC church? Most certainly NOT! Am I saying its OK for you to stay home and not go to church at all? Most certainly NOT! Go for GOD and yourself, if for no other reason, but go nonetheless.
Every major denomination believes that church attendance or the assembling of ourselves together (even if its a small group in a home) is biblically necessary. So why do some "christians" blow it off as if its not necessary?
I don't plaster my story on the internet but HeavenlyOne could tell you that I personally know more about "spiritually abusive" churches and pastors than the average bear. I continue on, I go to church, because of GOD...not people. People are going to be people no matter where you go.
Do I think you will bust hell wide open if you don't go to church? Not necessarily, but then again, I won't say that you'll make it to heaven either. Thats for God to judge, not I.
