If I might dive into carnality for a minute, you need to watch the movie,
A River Runs Throught It, the true story of Norman Maclean, a preacher's son who fly fished with his brother.
Made Fly Fishing look really cool! But actually you will catch more fish doing it to. Everytime I been in settings where I was up against bait casting, I have always caught more fish.

...interloper....!!!! I'm not sure I like that description....
The Pretty Water Lake stocks up with trout, so he usually fishes there...however, we do occasionally go up to Roaring River in MO.

I am not sure exactly what Trout might be fished for in that area. I do know, however, that if he goes East into MO, around the Blue Springs area, he can find some great trout fishing of the fly rod kind. Artificial baits only as I recall. Definitely cold water even in the summer. I did not have waders and for the first 45 minutes after I finished fishing I didn't think I had legs!
|
The water is definitely ice cold year round...you should try falling INto it.

When I was a kid we used to take our Zebco 33s (combos with the rod that came apart and fit in the vinyl rod sack) and use trout flies to catch crappie... that was a blast!

Ok here is a nice place to start, if money is no object you can find more expensive setup through ORVIS and others, but Bass Pro Shop will do nicely for those on a budget.
Here is the link to the start page:

I have been thinking of taking up fly fishing lately. Fish eat mainly bugs and other fish. For the longest I thought only trout went for flies but have recently found out that bluegill, bass, and crappie also eat bugs. Plus, it would be a way to get some exercise in.
