I've been geocaching for about 3 years now but am not religious about it... I think I have less than 100 finds. I think it is a good family activity that gets people exercise and that is always a good thing.

We enjoy it very much, and it is something I do with my MIL and SIL when we are together too. I am at 570 finds now, which is nothing compared to some of the people I know! LOL

I haven't read this thread other than the first post but here is my two cents!

I badly want a GPS unit I can move between my car and motorcycle. In particular for my motorcycle since I love to wander the rural highways of Middle Tennessee and most times have no clue where I am going.

The one big point I would make is that in my research I havediscovered that the lowest priced ones do not use or call out street names, just distances.

I think it is worth it to get one that converts to street names. There is a term for these that escapes me right now. I think a map with street names is much better than just a generic map and instructions to "turn in 500 ft.", etc.

I have not done all of my homwork yet as this is not in my 2007 budget but I do like the Garmin Nuvi line. There is a 330,360 and other models.

I have also read good things about the TomTom units.

Geocaching is a sport/hobby/game where players use a GPS to find geocaches that have been hidden by other players. You use the coordinates that are posted by the players, and sometimes you have to figure out puzzles to get the "real" coords or use clues to get to the location. It is almost like a modern day treasure hunt, but with a twist. Every geocache is a container. Sometimes they are big, sometimes VERY SMALL. But all of them have a log for you to sign when you find it. The larger ones have "stash" inside for you to trade. It could be anything from a happy meal toy to foreign money. The point of it really isn't what is in the cache, it is the hunt that is the fun. If you go to the website (www.geocaching.com - it is free) and punch in your zipcode, you would be surprised at how many of them may be hidden in your area. We do this when we travel too. Look for ones along our route, it makes the "rest stops" more fun.

Got the TOMTOM ONE at Radio Shack $299.00 and used it today. It's fun. I think it would be great to have a voice activated unit though.
