He has had some pretty serious heart problems over the last few years. It aged him quite a bit.

It is so weird for me to now be in that age group where people have these kinds of issues.

Lucky for me I have wonderful genetics. Let's see.......all of my mom's brothers except one and her father had their first heart attacks in their 30's. One of the brothers died of either a heart attack or stroke in his car in a parking lot, another died at home of a massive stroke, and my grandfather finally died of a heart attack in his 70's after having many of them over the years. My mom had her first stroke about age 60 and later at 66 had a massive stroke that has left her almost completely paralyzed and unable to speak or eat.

Of course my dad's side of the family is different but I understand most of my health genetics come from the mothers side. My dad's mom lived to be almost 100 and the family is relatively healthy.

Bro Huntley preached with a loud voice last night and probably ruined his voice for today. I watched all of last night's service. I loved the youth choir that sang: Let the Redeemed of the Lord say so.

I'll catch some more tomorrow. Too busy today with church tonight as well.

The part I didn't like: taking up the offering was toooooo long.

I agree. When did taking up the offering become such a production? Growing up in UPC, I don't recall this until recent years. It seems they always did the typical "nudge-the-person-beside-you-and-make-them-give-more" or something comedic. On rare occassions, someone would do the whole "who-can-give-a-thousand" thing.

Good grief....taking up the offering can go almost as long as the preaching now, especially if the preacher isn't long-winded!

I can think of only two reasons for why this is happening:

1. A blatant disregard for the laity

or

2. {THE MOST LIKELY SCENARIO] These events/productions are becoming too expensive .... Yes the venues cost money ... however a lot of money is going to speakers and what I call "fluff" .... it's a shame but in my opinion if you can't afford it ... don't do it.

It's more expensive than ever to put on a huge campmeeting, in particular one that is broadcast. At our campmeetings I think the ones that give the most are the preachers of large churches
