If death is the result of disobedience for Adam and Eve, then how were they to die before their disobedience?

So, if Adam was created to live forever anyway, what would the purpose be for God placing a Tree of Life in the midst of the garden that had Adam eaten of it would have enabled him to live forever? It doesn't make any sense to me!

Yes, it was a literal tree. They ate of the fruit of a tree, the only tree of its kind. The tree of life was also the only tree of its kind. Maybe the fruit of these two trees had no seeds.
Eden was a GARDEN with trees that grew fruit to eat. If you treat this as a metaphorical tree then you must apply the same principle to everything in the Bible. I understand everything in the word of God from a literal reading first, then see how it fits with the other teachings. The right hand of God is not a literal place but we need to be able to prove that. Most of the OT I understand literally and then see if things that are types and shadows like those in spoken of in Hebrews.
8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Is there any pain in Heaven? Jesus said for us to pray that the Father's will would be done in the earth, just like it is in Heaven.
