That was the world power at that time. Jersualem NEVER maintained that.

What planet was he on during the last invocation of the present pope? Nearly every leader of the known world was there at his invocation.

I was just reading and this thought came to me. Is the Mother Harlot really the Roman Catholic Church? Could it be that the true Mother Harlot is the setting up of any carnal minded system in place of God's Spiritual system?

That was my initial thought. The world (carnal) system is what we are to "come out of and be separated from". The Aposotlic Church is the only "system" that bows to God. ALL other religions and non-religions bow to the system of this world.

It is my understanding that what we call Babylon had its beginning in Genesis 10:8-12. Here we read that Nimrod, whose name means "rebel" began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter "before" the Lord. In the Greek Old Testament (used by the writers of our New Testament) the word "before" is enantion (Strongs no. 1726) which can mean before, in the presence of, opposite to, against, contrary. It is the base word used in enantiomai which means to oppose, set oneself against, contradict, withstand. So Nimrod was in opposition to YHWH, he was an "anti-YHWH" who hunted not just animals but also the souls of men. The beginning of his kingdom was Bavel or Babel. He also built Nineveh in Assyria. His influence was further spread when the languages were confounded at the tower of Babel and those religious teachings of his were carried throughout the world. Assyria and then Babylon conquered Israel and then Judah and carried their people away. When they returned to the land they brought many religious practices and ideas with them. But, way before that, it was a constant struggle for the hearts of the sons of Jacob between YHWH, the one true God, and Baal in his different forms and names. Babylon is more than an earthly kingom, it is also a spiritual kingdom with great influence.

Just as the influence of Nimrod and the religion of Baal has made inroads in the Jewish religion, so has it been part of "Christianity" in its public forms. Some forms of tritheism can be found there. So can the idea of a priestly group or clergy vs. laity, and other ideas such as use of statues and praying to dead saints, transubstantiation, baptismal regeneration, mother and child worship, holy water, etc.

We all need to be careful that we are not influenced by "Babylon" and its ideas and practices.

I think you are on the right track. I think Babylon mother of harlots has much
more to do with a system that is anti-God, anti-Christ, much more than
a physical earthly city or kingdom.
