Dan.. I don't really have a problem with Dora the Explorer... at all.. could care less...

What I do see is prevelant (even in some UC churches) is that the Glamour Factor is always pushed...from being on the Presidential Round Table... which was glamorized at a local Large UC Church by their Pastor...(forgot to tell them it's about $7 G's to be a part of the Round Table)... to meeting an actor and telling the church that He is looking "our way"... to focusing on a Television Personality and promoting something the UPC doesn't believe in the first place...

It doesn't make sense other than to turn the tide politically from the bottom up... The pastor preaches against Television... the youth say "why?"... We celebrated a Personality at Youth Congress..then they think "What's Wrong With our Pastor"?... and it grows from there...

Sort of like the phenomena I have noticed over my 48 years of conservative Pentecostal preachers incorporating stories involving sports figures in their sermons. Many times about their dedication, perseverence, or having overcome huge obstacles before success.

The Glamour Factor of the UPC is enamoured with anyone semi-important to showcase and set them up as a "We are reaching Them" by becoming them fascination...and sadly it will backfire and UPC Girls and Boys will become self-endulgent little beasts with no respect for anyone but themselves... and it will be a breaking point of family....not that there isn't enough of that already with folks trying to escape that by coming into the church... soon...

I am still conflicted about much of this... in the light that worldliness/carnality is already imputed in us by birth... how can we balance our natural emnity against God... seems that by our nature unless we are seperated from the World the flesh will win...

Well, this seems to be a hot topic today.

I don’t think her dress at Youth Congress was immodest at all… looks like my teen girls clothing as well as hundreds of other upc girls. Since when it is a sin to show knees?? now thighs showing and I might have questioned it on the stage at YC.

I am not against arms uncovered at all…just think you should have a modest neckline… I’m not sure I would allow the gowns she chose in the other pictures for my girls… but I also know that formals are really hard to come by with any kind of sleeves… I am not to judge and neither do I care. I think it is wonderful that she has a great career (my girls love Dora) it is even more awesome that she is part of this wonderful truth.

I don’t think it was a political move… who cares really… think the upc needs to wake up and realize that the majority have TV’s anyway and they are not going to stop progression with this younger generation.

I think the upci in general better stop focusing on the minor and get back to the basics and stuff that really matters… let all those non essentials be sorted out in the local church.

Kathleen Herles attends Bethel UPC in Long Island, NY. From my understanding she has attended Bethel since she was around 8 or 9 when her mom came in contact with Bethel at a shopping mall ( http://www.bethelupc.org/history.html ) at their annual christmas outreach program, where the choir visits the local malls and sings for the public.


It seems for the first time that the UPCI has chosen to showcase her at a large event - Youth Congress.

1- Why hasn't the organization featured Kathleen Herles in the Pentecostal Herald in the last 8 years?

2- Is it a coinkydinky that she is featured one month before General Conference?


3- Is she the new poster child for the fellowship?
