exactly - I dont think envelopes are necessary. I use one b/c it helps the church keep track of what comes in and what it intended purpose.

But in and of itself, the envelopes are not necessary. God knows if I pay my tithes and if I'm paying 10%

There was a time when we gave much more than our 10% and we took much joy or pride in it. We had been taught to give until you can't give anymore and we did. However, after some negative experiences with "fundraising" we mostly tithe now...an occasional offering is put in. Now, when we move we'll probably start giving more again. I have no problem supporting ministry I believe in.

No... That is assumed by many because I discuss this subject as I see the word of God laying it out.

But I do pay my tithes.

I paid them last week (I got paid) and I will be paying them next week... and so on and so on and so on.

before this conversation takes a nasty turn - I'd just like to go on record to say that most of us believe the same, we just express our belief differently. I think all of us believe in paying tithes and we all think it supports the ministry. However, some of us are more concerned about the dispersment of tithes rather than it all going to the pastor...

but I dont think any of us do not pay tithes. How can you disregard something so plain in scripture?

I also think that some of our posters have had experiences with pastors who took 100% of the tithes but neglected the church finances, and serious consequences came from that.....so they are a little more sensitive on the tithing issue...

the rest of us have been lucky to have a pastor who is a good steward of all the money that comes in the church and is careful to pay the church bills and be in good standing in the community
