To resurrect the cremation thread, there are 6 mentions of cremation in scripture. None of those cremated were pleasing unto God.
Joshua 7:20-26
I Samuel 31:7-13
2 Kings 23:15-20
Amos 2:1-3
Amos 6:1-10
Jeremiah 34:1-5

5 instances where lack of burial was seen or portrayed as a disgrace:
2 Kings 9:5-10
Proverbs 30:17
Jeremiah 16:4
Jeremiah 22:19
Ezekiel 39:15

4 instances where burial was important enough to be planned for:
Genesis 23:10-16
Genesis 50:4-6
2 Chronicles 16:13-14
Matthew 27:58-60

And 2 instances where the poor were cared for in burial:
Jeremiah 26:23
Matthew 27:7

And finally, when the choice was left to God, He buried Moses.

I have read many opinions, but have seen very little to back them up.

The options are:
  1. Slowly turning to ashes and dust
  2. Quickly turning to ashes and dust.

I repeat, many opinions, little backing to support them.

When I die, I want any organs that are needed for life-saving transplants, to be taken for others to live. Then what is left, to be cremated. If my family wants something set up as a "memorial" to me, or something they can go to, I don't need a fancy carved rock. I told them to plant a tree in their yard, that they could sit in the shade under some day and remember me.

I'm not going to need the organs, I'm not going to need my remains, I'm not going to need a carved rock. I won't be here. I surely won't care!

There are other alternatives besides cremation and the costly traditional funeral. Has anyone heard of "green" or "natural" funerals?

Last year, I was doing research on alternative funerals after I had witnessed the outrageous expenses occurred while preparing for my aunt's funeral. I have always been someone who thought that the costs were highway robbery and I wanted to leave as much money to my loved ones at the time of my passing.

"Green" or "natural" funerals can cost just a few hundred dollars compared to the average cost of several thousand dollars for the traditional funeral. Essentially, once you received a local permit to handle the body, the family washes and prepares the body, stores the body on dry ice or frozen peas (yes, you heard right) and buries the body within 72 hours.

If you want a pine box, you can order one at Houston's Pine Box Company for $395 or you can order a cardbox casket for around $49.95. I've opted for the cardbox casket for my funeral. If you have a family cementary in a rural area, your cost would be even less, because you wouldn't have the additional expense of a plot.

This type of funeral is a throw back from earlier times, prior Civil War, when the families were resposible for the departed. No harmful chemicals were used and the departed had family come to the home and show their respects.

There are only five states that require a funeral home to be somewhat involved, Connecticut, Indiana, Louisiana, Nebraska and New York, so if you reside in one of those states, be sure to check the specific requirments of your state regarding the handling of the deceased.

Interesting.

I have not read all the post and someone may have already mentioned this.I find it interesting that God became upset with Moab for burning the bones of the King of Edom.

Amos.2
[1] Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:
[2] But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet:

This is pretty much the "bare bones" of the matter. LOL!
