Now the story about the $1000 gifts and the resulting "rewards" it totally believable..... but I have major problems with the initial post.

Wow, RW, you have to have had a bad encounter somewhere along the way. My husband is used a lot in the gift of Word of Knowledge and also in Prophecy. He is sincere and honest and I have seen him get words about people in a service that he had no way in the world of knowing. God spoke to him, and he spoke to the person, and their lives were affected in great ways. I'm not talking about general words either, but specific words that only God could give.

I know I wouldn't personally believe it unless it happened to me... and it would have to be something personal that I had never told anyone... otherwise I see no difference from the tricks that psychics use where they give generic events that could apply to just about anyone and then go down that path when they get a "hit" from someone... something like,
"Someone elderly that you know died recently"... or "You are going through a spiritual battle" not that hard to find that this would apply to most of the people in the audience.
Horoscopes and those personality tests are for the most part the same thing as well...

Randy,
I know you are probably feeling on the spot here, but could you give a reason why you are in doubt. I also think it would be good to clear any misunderstandings by clarifying whether you believe steadfast was fooled, or is lying about this. This would ease some minds (or stir them up worse).
So is it that you do not believe the gift was real, and that the man had prior knowledge? Is there a reason you do not believe God can or would give a preacher this kind of knowledge.
Inquiring minds want to know just where you are coming from with your post.

How about "God spared your life when you was 16", and immediately my mind went to the night I drunk so much whiskey I passed out and pucked all over myself, and by all rights should have asphyxiated as I have always slept on my back?
Just because you do not remember any "real" does not mean there isn't any.

Personally, I can think of several stupid things I did when I was 16... and 17... and 18... I've just heard too many lies over the pulpit to take those kind of things seriously. I am not saying that the real thing doesn't happen, but the "prophet" would have to name dates, times, specific events and what I was actually thinking at the time before I would even consider believing it.
I am not trying to argue or tear down other people's faith... I realize that most people need something like this to believe in... I just don't believe 99% of it myself... (and I am speaking broadly about prophesy, not specifically about this thread.) The only reason I even posted here was because Phil asked Randy if he was comfortable questioning men of God or something to that effect... I for one am VERY comfortable questioning them... and wish more people would do so.

I do feel sorry for you. And I am not saying that as an insult. Its not faith once you see it. It is the results of faith. This is the reason many do not see greater things from God. Because they don't believe it until they see it, and it don't work that way.

Mark 9: 24
24And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

No offense taken... I have come to realize over my 3 or 4 years posting with you guys that I am in the extreme minority in my views when hanging out in a place like this. Every now and then I just feel like I have to share my own point of view, but try to keep it to a bare minimum. lol. I don't have faith in much of anything except hard work and making good decisions and not being gullible.

God will always meet someone who is trying.
Can we look at the story though. The man initially brings his son to the disciple, showing he had faith that the son could be healed. They tried and couldn't do it. So here comes Jesus. Now I wonder where this man got the unbelief from? Could it be that he initially can believing, and then started doubting when it didn't happen, and because he cried out to Jesus asking for help, he got it?

Brad my friend, I do pray that God will show you his glory and that you will have no doubt as to it being him.
