The ultracons (what a fun term!) have been watching attempt after heart-rending attempt by those leaving in protest of "rules" to perform that backwards-triple-gainer off the high dive. So many have smacked their chin on the diving board during this grand attempt to enter the warm waters below that the ultracons have deemed it part of being a good neighbor to grab the arm of friends and loved ones as they reach for the ladder, and say, "this may not be such a great idea."

All kids fall down when learning to walk. Maybe it's better to put them in a wheelchair rather than let them fall down. We can protect ourselves to the point that we never learn to walk with God but become spiritually invalid (read the term invalid either way!!!) instead.

Of a certainty things are changing. Information and content are ever-more-readily available. The content is designed to seduce. One can take great pains to sift through it to preserve the "rightness" of their heart. Or one can leave it alone entirely and use that time to take food to somebody or crack open the bible.

If you remember, I started this thread with the intent to say why I have internet but still do not have a hooked up TV after two years of being outside of the UPC. The arguments against TV have merit. They always have and always will. What doesn't have merit is the exclusion of brethren who choose otherwise.

I am not a legalist. I am not against advertising on TV. I don't think having a TV will send you to hell. But I don't have one. When we left the UPC, we got a TV to play videos on. We have never hooked up the TV part.
You almost have to have internet nowadays. But TV is different. If you have videos you pick and choose what you want to watch. With TV you get all that advertising.
I like it this way, personally.
Yes, I am a pants wearing, make-up wearing, jewelry wearing heathen.
But I still have internet but not TV.
There. I'm still MAD that I lost that!!

Yep this is me. And I too wear pants.

I rarely watch TV, just not much on there that interests me that's clean enough to watch. I do use the internet for nearly everything. I do all research, travel, communication, etc. on here. It's hard now to imagine what we did before Al Gore invented the web!

I hardly watch TV at all anymore since the little one arrived. I think I could do without except for baseball and football. I'm not ready to give up my sports yet.

If TV and internet are readily available, I will go for the internet 90+ % of the time.

ummm... if you bought a TV set you have a tv...
the "rulebook" doesn't speak against a cable signal, the rule is actually about a physical TV set...

Uh no. If you have a set, you have to have it modified so it can't recieve.
But our set is not hooked up to any antenna and just doesn't get anything.

I think protecting the bride from division is more important than pushing one opinion onto everyone in the name of "protecting the bride from itself because it can't lead itself, so the bride itself will make rules to encase itself thereby leading itself anyway."
|
It sounds good, really it does, but there's just ONE TINY PROBLEM WITH IT.
The bridegroom disagrees with you and Rodney King:
Quote:
Luke 12:52
For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Quote:
Luke 14:26
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
