Historically it has been the case that those who preach a tougher line on standards do so because they feel it makes them "closer to God." I think what redeemedcynic and others are saying is that, "No, the tough line on standards is in fact a sign of weakness..."
What we need to identify are the things that are eternal. Holiness is eternal - but how does that apply to the baggy jams my brother wears while mowing the yard? Is my brother in error? Is it correct for another brother to wag his finger at him in scorn?
