I understand that Pete Seeger recently had voiced regret for ever being involved in communism.
I think He has recently written a song decrying Joseph Stalin.

Thanks, Matthew...
Most people unless they have lived under communism have no earthly idea what it really is as we know it today...communism as we know it today has nothing to do with the first church...

to say that communism itself hates americans or everyone who espouses socialism hates America is even more ludicrous than saying its the anti-Christ... (note to self: if you are going to disagree, disagree with the most wrong statement, not the least wrong one...)
The simple fact is that an ideology that wants everyone to be healthy and not in poverty is not evil... and really that's what Christ encouraged, those who were well off to give to the poor and the sick so that the poor and the sick were all taken care off, thus making no one poor and people as healthy as possible...
thus, the goal of Marx and Christ, at least as far as social reform on this earth goes, were the same...
Now Christ also wanted to save people's souls, too... Whereas Marx wasn't worried about that, which is where they split...

Communism as we know it today has nothing to do with communism, either... (another thing it has in common with the first church)

Millions of people today however are kept in poverty because their governments (and governments around them) won't allow them to participate in the activities that create jobs. They are literally locked up in "refugee camps," and "settlement areas" where there is no newpaper to get a route delivering. They are forbidden by any number of powers from harvesting local resources to establish trade in the name of "environmentalism." Cronyism, tribal racism and corruption keep them from finding employment in the cities. There are some very deplorable conditions that some people are forced to live in. Capitalism and globalization is responsible for some of this; but so is Communism.
It's a sad fact of human life that "the poor you will always have with you..." Some people have cursed Christianity for saying that; as if poverty was invented by Christians. In truth, it's just a realistic appraisal of life.

The root cause is that people are attached to the wrong root. Sin is the ultimate problem.
If Jesus is the root love is the fruit and we must be grafted into Him.
