Friends,
I find it sad that any couple should come to a place of divorce, no matter whether they are saved or not.
The greater tragedy in this case, is the propagation of false doctrine as the truth and it's role in this debacle. While many rumors abound concerning the real reasons for their divorce, they have both stated that this is not the result of unfaithfulness (either they are lying or telling the truth) but rather it is due to their individual ministries taking them in different directions. Such declarations violate the very scriptures they purport to follow, and lead many followers down a road of deception. Many of the Paula White fans will now justify divorce and separation on behalf of their "ministry."
However, I believe this is because of the root problem, which is false doctrine. It does not matter how much money she helps to raise on behalf of "good" projects in Africa or anywhere else for that matter (the Catholic church raises billions for charity) if in the end Jesus says "I never knew you."
The Apostle Paul wrote in
2Cor. 11
3But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
What these and others like them are preaching is another Jesus. It may have the same spelling and have many of the same trappings but it is not the same Jesus. The NLT says
You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed. And this is where it gets scary, many of us happily put up with false doctrine and endorse it by our participation in its promotion.
The Apostle continues his discourse in verse 13
13For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
We must be careful not to allow ourselves to be swayed by the charisma and likeability of those who prostitute the "gospel" for financial gain or to do "good" works. According to scripture they are still false prophets.
Please this is not directed at any person on this forum but rather the musings of a preacher who has grown tired of the hype and is seeking after truth.
