Do you really want all those ads to come into your home?
Ad agencies have execs regularly make 6 figure salary's or more because they
know that ADVERTISING WORKS!
Now, we haven't even touched on the programs yet, but with two strikes against it---why do you still defend it??
It seems as if it is a "Godly Right" we need to justify?

I don't have to defend TV....that's not what this is about.
I was raised UPC...with a TV...so I never lived the no tv life.
Does advertising work...it does..on the tv, radio, billboards, convenience stores, magazines, internet, and all the other places ads are placed...
The bottom line is this...we choose what influences us...and we don't just sit there and have our noses 1 inch away from the TV ads and go...I gotta go get that beer or whatever....but there are plenty of people with their nose 1 inch away from the computer screen....

I have seen so many lies posted. The best one is the one Triumphant 1 did his best to combat. You know, the hair cutting party thing?
Prominent members of this board chose to believe the lie and even continue to spread it, even though T1 had totally proved it was false.

Seeing the content on it-he may have preached against it as well.

the "idiot box" doesn't move much of anything...
You don't sell a car by tvs... you get the car in people's heads so when they think about buying a car the first thing they think of is your car...
Why do you think Geico uses cavemen in the modern world to sell car insurance??? Not because it has anythign to do with the product, but because its silly and gets thier name out there and "Geico" on peopel's minds... Then when they need insurance, "Geico" is the first thing they think of...
same with everything else...
What advertising will do is make it so people think of our churches and our message when they are hurting and are seeking God or looking for a church...

I keep hearing about internet.
Can't someone stay on the subject of TV.
Can't anyone defend TV on it's own merits?

he'd have preached against the content...
He wouldn't have preached against all of it, though...
I seriously doubt we'd have seen Paul talking about how evil Veggietales are like our dear incorrect brother in this thread...

My only fear is that pride will get the best of the UPCI and we will have a replay of what went on down here in The District of Borat. These men were so ready to show the world how Holy were are down here that they made idiots of themselves. Pride goeth before a great fall. ......Is that Bro. Tim Spell I hear in the background?

BINGO!!!!! If it works, then why shouldn't we use it?
Allowing advertising DOES NOT equate to the full uninhibited acceptance of TV.... if internet can be embraced with controlls and discression, why not TV? If internet can be allowed with filters, then why not TV? Or rather, why not just allow TV advertising, and then teach about the wisdom of not having one in the home? I don't see this as a double standard at all!!! If advertising works, let's use it!

When it is blatantly obvious that one is inconsistent in defending internet and using it, while condemning TV which is far more innocent than the internet, it HAS to be mentioned!
