However, the effectiveness of certain venues of TV, i.e. as an advertising and communication medium, cannot be denied. Therefore harnassing the positivie benefits, while "filtering out" and regulating the negative aspects, is something that could be considered, and still not be contradictory to the apostolics traditional position on TV as a whole. We harnass the "advertising, communication, and information" aspects of the internet while attempting to filter out it's damaging and perfidious aspects... why can we not do the same for TV? I would not suggest that people should have unfettered access to programming on TV, and I also would emphasise that TV should not be a primary method of entertainment in the home. I even think the traditional position of just not having one in the home (not through legislation, but by teaching principle and letting people make up their own mind) could be promoted as well... while still harnassing those EXTREMELY effective avenues of communication that are available on it. JMHO...

I agree, a blanket "everything on tv is ok" statement is, well, obviously not true... but so is a blanket "everything on tv is evil" statement...
and one tv wouldn't work in my home, not because everyone watches so much tv, but 'cuz both me and my bro have our video games in our rooms and, well, they require TV sets... }=o) (so we hook up cable through 'em, too, 'cuz, well, why not if its available and odesn't cost anything more???)

You see this is where you lose your argument and you get frustrated.
You see, I'm not buying your story. I happen to not believe that young people will get the Spirit of Christ by viewing a talking pickle. Sorry.
Yep, it's NOT like the HOLY GHOST poured out in anytime. Hey you can believe as you very well please, I just don't accept your story. You want to believe that people can get the Holy Ghost by being prayed through by an talking onion, then that's your trial.
Grow up.
Wrong that's not correct, I'm just not agreeing with your story about cartoon vegetables causing children to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
Hey, this is your trial not mine, no need to get angry, mad or sad, I just think it's false.
Yawn, come off it son, try to accept that someone on this planet does not believe what you're saying. It doesn't mean you're a bad man, or that you're lost, it just means that an individual is not accepting what you posted.
No problem, just go and strengthen your argument if you have one. If you can't then don't cry when I come back at you sarcastically, especially when you are going out of your way to be toxic. I can deal with it, I don't take it personal, but it sad when some one wants to knock heads over un-provable foolishness and I come back with a retort and I get reported and banned. So do me a favor, you want to believe in Veggie Tale Holy Ghost experiences then have at it, just don't expect the rest of the free thinking world to sit at your feet because of it.
Offend a little one? Are you a babe in Christ? Are you saying that you're a child? Understand this I'm not telling new converts and their parents that animated celery will cause their kids to repent and receive the Spirit of Christ. That's your deal, so it's your stone to bare, not mine.
Whatever, Hey, I think the whole thing is sad, so keep us posted to the mighty revival you will be having at your Church when you televise re-runs of Ren and Stimpy.

Bro. EB, I just want to make a couple of points. I have seen kids pray through after nothing more than a puppet skit, and or some other kind of theatrical presentation. The message during the puppet skit brought conviction, children were praying, crying, and receiving the Holy Ghost in the altars. Why could not the exact same message be communicated on a video recording of that exact same skit? Not that this should be the only or primary method of communicating truth, but that it CAN simply be an alternate method, and variation. Kids are open to things like that. I don't personally know about the message being communicated through veggie tales, but if a puppet show can bring conviction, why couldn't talking vegetables? I think it would really be beneficial for you and your ministry to consider critically and alalytically what is being introduced. Noone is saying that they are going to resort to puppet shows or vegetable cartoons solely in their efforts to communicate to children, but they may consider it simply as an alternative and variation to some of the other methods they use.
BTW brother, keep us posted as well on the revivals you are having!! Lord bless you my brother!

It goes in one ear and out the other brother....after awhile I have to wonder if this is an inherit ability to do that or are they seeing your point and see how valid it is and because they still want to have their way they distort the point.
That is the problem with ignoring logic and making logical fallacies. People tend to think that ignoring a valid argment and twisting it is an honest and legit way to find the truth or allow truth to prevail. If their argument was true it should rest on the basis of the facts they present and not on the basis of repeating the same assertions over and over (ad nausem), distorting your arguments (strawman argument) and misdirection (red herring)

Yet the argument has been about internet (I still don't know if all the UC'S or conservatives have internet even) or any such thing.
Don't you think that if TV was such a good thing it could stand on it's own merit?
Name 1, just 1 succesful TV evangelist that preaches truth, doesn't look like an accident with Mary Kay, and doesn't squander money on themselves?
|
What is the stated definition of successful? How can we name one that preaches the truth when OP orgs are so dogmatically opposed to it? That's absurd. We'd LOVE to name one but the UCs keep trying to keep the Oneness Message off the air and relegated to obscurity.
See this is the point I have been making. If we would have sought to unify and come to some sort of agreement we can all live with, we might have implemented a strategy to get the truth broadcasted WHILE avoiding the "An octopus landed on my head and an orangutan just put on my make up" TBN look and have some sort of financial accounability put in. BTW one can still do that look and squander church funds on themselves with OUT being on the TV

Thank you for the information Brother and I have no doubt that a child can receive the Gospel message through preaching and teaching and that a child can receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of tongues. As far as the veggie tales goes I am 100% convinced in my mind that not one human being could get the Holy Ghost from viewing it. I appreciate you taking the time to present your thoughts on puppet ministry, but I don't see the pickle preacher having any effect. If talking turnips has had an effect then why are those who watch the videos un-changed?
I don't believe that Veggie Tales has anything to do with Jesus Christ and that's my opinion.
Thank you for the blessing on what we are doing in South Florida and the Lord richly bless you and your ministry.

For myself, I've never managed to sit through an entire Veggie Tale. I don't say that to criticize the Veggies, maybe it's a problem with me.
In any event, two of my nephews got the Holy Ghost after a Sunday School outreach that included a couple of Veggie Tales programs.

You have descecrated the sacred infilling of the Spirit with your cynicism. A Fred Flinstone Holy GHost suggests kdis were faking it. IF that isn't blasphemous I don't know what is.
The reason your comments are repulsive is because I minister to a great group of kids. 90 percent of the kids in our group do not come from the smug self righteous families you seem to feel at home with.
Some of the kids I minster to come from abusive situations, from single parent homes. Some have severe behavior problems, others have special needs. A couple kids have autism (btw, they have the Holy Ghost and are baptized in Jesus name.)
God is moving with our children all but one has either the Holy Ghost, baptized in Jesus name and/or both. Two weeks ago we baptized 3 people under the age of 10 in the name of Jesus. (We skipped the Christ and for the remission of sins part because the water was freezing.)
We've used video, television, ice cream, and fireworks for object lessons. We've dropped a pack of mentos down a 2 liter bottle of diet coke and explained how the Holy Ghost works. We used veggie tales story about temptation to teach about repentance, baptism and the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
Don't beat around the bush if you want to call me a liar. I know how legalists work. They say it stuff without saying it. Either you think I'm a liar or I'm not.
If you got a problem with the methods don't use them. You win souls your way. I'll win souls my way. Heaven is big enough for both of us.
