Just immerse. Rinse and spin only when necessary.

In the area around Jerusalem the most likely places for Christian baptism in the early church were the numerous mikvah - or "plunge pools." There was usually only room for one person at a time and you usually had to go down some steps or a ladder into what amounted to a cistern.

The whole idea of some "else" baptizing the convert would be confused at best. No doubt someone at the top of the stairs officiated, but the whole act of being "buried" in the waters was accomplished by the convert himself/herself.

A lot of our traditions and mindsets don't always fit easily into the real picture of the ancient world.

It is quite difficult to read an eastern book with a western mindset.

Yep .... a real look at baptism of the ancient world would debunk the myths and fallacies.

Interesting. For what it's worth when the Jews have a gentile proselyte they circumcise them first and then baptize them by immersion.
It's worth a lot ... this means that circumcision comes before baptism.

Meaning ... Cornelius, under the New Covenant, had been quickened to life ... and circumcised of the heart prior to his baptism ....

It's no wonder Peter fussed with those who wanted physical circumcision in Acts 11 and 15.

But the 3 steppers in here seem to imply Cornelius got the HG on credit.

His analogy is also faulty because all three applications happen at once. Not over a period of time ...
