In my very last District Conference of the Georgia District UPC just a few years ago -
They passed 21 new rules and I was the only one to stand up and say how totally ridiculous these were and that they would be the laughing stock of the UPC. I demanded that my name be written down in opposition to these rules. The man that introduced them - his boys were drinking beer, smoking pot and cigarettes out back of the dorms but - this is what HE was concerned about: OH YEAH - There was NO WRITTEN RULE against alcohol or tobacco on the campground! I asked if they could add those too and then let them wear Cherry Chap Stick and have a Mickey Mouse Watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No A on any ball caps as it stood for the Atlanta Braves. You could have a B - but not an A.
No ball caps turned backwards.
No Mickey Mouse Watches.
No Mickey Mouse T-Shirts.
No T-Shirts with any sports Logos at all. Nike, Adidas, Reebok, etc...
No Colored Lip Gloss - I asked if Cherry Chap Stick was against the law too!
No facial hair for men. They wanted to set up a "MUSTACHE COMMITTEE" that would evaluate any boy coming on the campground and if they thought his "peach fuzz" was too dark and would be seen as a mustache - He would have to shave immediately or leave the Campground.
I only had black young men in my church - so I said - well - So the white boys get to stay with their blond peach fuzz and the black boys have to leave. I did not bring any of mine to the camp as all of my young men had BLACK CURLY HAIR!
No Split Skirts of any kind. They would establish a "Split Skirt committee" that would evaluate if the women or girls had a split skirt - they would sew them up with a piece of material on hand to do it with.
No jewelry of any kind - if you had on a wedding ring - you had to take it off and not wear it.
I know a (now deceased) Pastors wife in OH that taught NO PERFUME and NO TAMPONS. No scented deodorant and a bunch of other things like this.
One pastor made me take off my red tie before I went on the platform as he did not believe in wearing of RED - the DEVILS color. I went back to preach a year later - THE JOKER WAS WEARING MY TIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO KIDDING!!!!!!!!
We preached for a pastor in KY that his daughter was an INCREDIBLE organist - he was independent - she did not play the first night - just sat on the front pew. I said - Pastor - Why is she not playing the organ. He said - She went down to that LIBERAL UPC Youth Camp and them girls convinced her to SHAVE HER LEGS and I won't have her on that organ until her HAIR GROWS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have also heard them preach against "wearing all that TOMMY HILL-FINGER" stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GL what is the definition of Gossip? As I see the definition it is pretty broad that even talking about George Bush getting a mole removed is considered gossip...
Under those circumstances I think everyone gossips. So what specifically are we talking about and what scriptures do we use?

getting rid of an ACOUSTIC guitar is getting rid of modern music??? that is what caught my attention. Why not get rid of the amps or electric guitars or distortion boxes...oh wait...how about anything more than a 4 string bass is of the debil?

I heard a visiting minister tell the congregation,: "come back tonight and I'll give you proof from the scripture that short sleeves should not be worn"> I couldn't wait to hear this one and returned to hear,"who hath made bare the arm of the Lord!" Hey, if God wore long sleeves, who are we to argue?
And then there's the story of the lady who was questioned as to what she thought of the importance of learning a second language. Her reply was, "I guess if English was good enough for the Lord to speak, then it's good enough for me."
