(I apologize for condensing your post - I just wanted to point out a common thread)
Can you really call them "friend" if they knowingly lie?
Just a thought
"And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?"

Lets look at it like this...shall we....
The affirmation statement in itself says that "I (Ministers Name) do hereby declare that I believe and embrace fundamental doctrine as stated in the Articles of Faith as set forth by the United Pentecostal Church Int. I ALSO BELIEVE AND EMBRACE THE HOLINESS STANDARDS of the United Pentecostal Church Int. in said Articles of Faith,
And I PLEDGE to practice, teach and preach the same"

Interesting. It's been awhile since I've given any thought to the affirmation statement, but this post definitely raises some thought provoking issues.
The compliance demanded is total: to sign one must not only pledge to practice the holiness standards, but must, on the strength of their signature, pledge that they believe the holiness standards; further they must pledge to both teach and preach the same.
In the interest of unity for the cause of evangelism, a preacher might agree to practice the holiness standards, but practice is not enough, belief is demanded.

Furthermore, because of the display of all these evils on television, we disapprove of any of our people having television sets in their homes. We admonish all of our people to refrain from any of these practices in the interest of spiritual progress and the soon coming of the Lord for His church."
Break it down....
FIRST AND FOREMOST..."We wholeheartedly disapprove" is NOT a WE FORBID..it is a postion with understanding that men have different views on some issues.
|
This has the appearance of being a nonsensical statement. No signatory to the affirmation statement can disassociate himself from the corporate "we" in this article, and, in the context of a pastor and congregation relationship, how can a minister wholeheartedly disapprove of something and not forbid what he wholeheartedly disapproves of?

I see no pick and and choose room there..........................
IF you sign it and violate just 1 of the standards set...you are lying.

This statement is made repeatedly on this forum, and I have yet to see it refuted. There are few ministers that wholeheartedly agree with every issue expressed in the holiness article so there must be a good refutation to this statement, but I've yet to hear it.

And you wont.....Sad that they rant and rave about things they can see....but when they are nailed about the things done is secret...they run for cover.
I am VERY surprised that some on here, that I highly respect, have not even commented on this thread.
Proves a point....doesnt it.
NOW you see why I think the AS is pointless....VERY VERY VERY few actually do it the way it mandates.
So, it makes liars out of all of us.

NLYP,
I'm not certain I want to be one of YOUR friends...it seems you do an excellent self-serving job of analyzing others for YOUR own benefit and purposes...maybe you might want to give some thought to praying for, loving and nurturing Jesus Christ in YOUR life and theirs.
Otherwise, all this "much ado about nothing" and simplistic thinking is for no avail...any Heavy Hitter could expose YOUR shallow thinking in about 5 scriptural references ("I can name that tune in 4 notes!!")
