Be Thou An Example

Quote:
1Ti 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, *in word, *in conversation, *in charity, *in spirit, *in faith, *in purity.

During our family devotions tonight we read the 4th chapter of 1st Timothy, and this was one of the verses that stood out to me. I have pinpointed 6 thinks that the writer states Timothy is to be an example in.I am not going to try to expound on it as there are greater minds than my little pea brain here. So I will leave it open for anyone that might like to give some points to it.

To be an example is to be like you want someone else to be. It all goes back to the universal "golden rule" (paraphrasing) - if we would do unto others as we would have them do unto us, we'd live our lives a whole lot differently.

In some ways, I think this scripture was personal to Timothy, because he was young in comparison to Paul. He was telling how a (young) pastor should live in order to be respected by those who he would minister to and how he would be judged by his conduct. It was one thing to teach doctrine but the greatest lesson would be learned through the way others saw how he lived his life.

Timothy was to be an example of the life of Jesus Christ. That way people know what a Christian is supposed to be.

A far cry from the "Christians arent perfect just forgiven" cliche of today.

Are we an example of Christ if sin is in our lives?
