A good friend posted this in another forum some moons ago ... and it has always stayed in my mind... Please take it w/ a grain of salt:

" One might like to consider the following in the discussion:

Lk 22: 35 And he [Jesus] said unto them [the disciples], When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

From the context of this chapter, it would seems as thought Jesus is bringing to the attention of His disciples that while He was with them (on earth), He personally took care of everything they needed, even their protection, even when He was not physically in their company.

Now, Jesus is making it clear that His provision and protection shall continue with them, but that the physical circumstances will be different than it has been in the past.

Unlike in the boat during a storm, the disciples will have to exercise both physical and spiritual authority and power – more on their own. They will not have the luxury of going back and waking Jesus up, and pleading for Him to “do something”.

There are now the realities of the world to contend with, such has having to pay for things they need, changes of clothing to carry along. As it is also well known, there were road agents (robbers) that one would most likely encounter – guys that are willing to take your life for what ever you might have on your person. For this, one will need a means of self-protection: a sword, if you will. Today, a gun might serve you better.

Doctrine: You might be as gentle as a dove and keep peace with all men (where possible), if you are robbed of your coat, give the robber your cloak also. But, if the highwayman is bent on taking your life [sic ...even your cyber-life]: Take him out!!!"

A.W. is a good man.
Luke 22:49-51 When Jesus' followers saw what was going to happen, they said "Lord should we strike with our swords? And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. But Jesus answered, "No more of this"
And he touched the man's ear and healed him. (NIV)

For whatever reason Jesus made sure his disciples took swords with them to the Mount of Olives (Luke 22:36-38). Perhaps to show them violence was not the answer, and that he did not come to lead an armed rebellion? (Luke 22:52)

Perhaps so he could perform one last miraculous healing?

Perhaps to demonstrate that love is the answer and not retaliation?

I'm with Sheltie on this one. Carpenter usually doesn't go into offense mode without good reason, prompting me to ask: What did you DO, Daniel?

Simply support my sister's move ...

Carp ... thought I was speaking from my bias ... and was not aware of the situation ...

When he realized his attack was pre-mature and the Darcie was my sister ... he decided it was to late to acquiesce.

But revealed his animosity.

Thread in question ... http://apostolicfriendsforum.com/showthread.php?t=8833

A.W. is a good man.

Our sword is the word of God. Our enemy is the power of darkness. Our warfare is not carnal.

What would Jesus do? Take up a sword? Cut and slice with his tongue?

What did Jesus do? Love your enemies. Bless them which curse you. Pray for them that despitefully use you. Turn the other cheek. Go the extra mile. Whatsoeve you do in Word or Deed, do all things in the name of Jesus Christ.

Dan was just being Dan and Carp doesn't like it.

Sometimes when God is moving us toward change circumstances come into our lives to make us seek His will and look for His guidance.

With that said, we have seen God closing doors for us here in Wilmington since the early spring. Not knowing where to go and what to do, God miraculously placed a very lovely and anointed couple in our lives, Eddie and Sherri Cupples.

I am so excited to announce that we have decided to move to Jackson TN to be under their ministry at Love and Truth Church. We can't wait to see what God has in store for us. Pastor Eddie has so much vision to reach the lost. God has shown him the need to reach the Spanish community, and that’s where my husband and I come in to serve.

Wilmington has been a stepping stone in our lives. We have no regrets, we’ve learned so much here…but it’s time for a change!

Some may not agree or care. Not withstanding, I am so excited about you guys stepping into grace and being propelled into His purpose.

I am so happy that God has opened this door and am confident that you are on the verge to seeing the fulfillment of the promises He's made for you and your family.

I love you and Godspeed.

This was the exchange, the attack was totally uncalled for given the thread.

Dan even mentioned a time of personal family grief.

Carpenter continued to be offensive (in more meaning than one) even after the context of the post was pointed out to him.
