Why would it need to be "prescription" or "narcotic"? Those are human definitions... are you asking natural versus man-made remedies? or are you asking if it is okay to take one man-made remedy which is less than a certain dosage or man-made classification but not others with higher dosage or a different classification such as narcotic... or are you asking if it is okay to take any medication at all? The "little wine for thy stomach's sake" scripture supports medicine, in my opinion... and self-medication at that.

For example, I can buy Aleve which are 220mg over the counter (and the recommended adult dose is 2 tablets). My wife can get prescription strength ones that are 500mg. Since they are legally prescribed to her, it is illegal for me to take them, although if I were to take 3 of the over the counter tablets, I am taking a higher dosage and only violating a "recommended" dosage.
