I heard him preach at JH's church in North Little Rock. The first time I heard him, his message was laced with standards and what he'd do if he saw a young boy come into his church gym with short sleeves on. He'd kick them out immediately. He seemed to preach every year there. The last time I heard him his message was fabulous! His message that night was church growth and that it WAS about numbers. Not the first mention of standards. There were many preachers on the platform that didn't look none too happy. That was a few years ago. He didn't preach there again till I think this last campmeeting. He said to the preachers that if they weren't interested in their church growing to step aside and let someone else do it! He was pumped that night. It was funny to hear that message preached at an ultra-con campmeeting.

I think the influence of the Vaughn Morton generation of preachers is quickly fading. I am not celebrating or lamenting, but it is a fact. The grandfathers are losing their influence and the dads are now taking the baton to Tulsa.
I don't think him leaving will amount to much. This is like saying Strom Thurmond is leaving politics. Ok. What's the weather going to be tomorrow?

Carp old friend, I think vaughn Morton is a little more relevant in today's UPC than Strom Thurmond.
A lot of younger men revere him and listen to him.

Vicky, why does he need to leave and more importantly, why are YOU soooooo glad?
To me this is a little rude. This man has been a pillar and a rock. Yes, he is conservative, but that shouldn't matter to you, who no longer is a part of the UPC. No matter what you think about his stand on things, he IS a Man of God and a powerful one I might add.
IMO, you and others who are negative to the movement, NEED to find something else or someone else to talk about.

Bro. Morton has always been a great preacher, a bit ole' fashion, however he has always stood his ground and never swayed. Guess what people the UPC is not the only organization that people are a part of that will make it to heaven. OMG!!!!! I can't believe it. I said it. Yes, maybe James Dobson will make it toooooooooo........ ha ha ha ha

A progressive church is one that is progressing in reaching the lost, not one that is trying to become the lost. I agree that using every means available is a good thing.
Quote:
1Co 9:19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
