I love Jesus with all my heart and mind and his blood and grace have been applied to my life. THIS is what protects inward holiness.
How dare you not read my insightful posts on this thread! However I will forgive you since you posted an excellent thought here.

Here is your answer:

John 15:19

If ye were of the world, the world would love, his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore, the world hateth you.

Clothes rarely look frumpy until they are put on. They tend to conform to the shape of the body inside.

I have never once stated that standards of dress give you inward holiness!
Dresses do not equal holiness!!!

But God has commanded modesty and holiness of his people.
And when a person is holy on the inside then it will show up on the outside.
And when a person is rotten on the inside then no amount of dress standards will affect the inside.

We must worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth!
We must balance the law with the spirit of the law.

Without spirit you are legalist and a pharisee.
Without truth you are lopsided and of no good.

Unless the crotch is around knee length. I have the same gut reaction to that style as I did during the late 80's/early 90's when tiny 10-hair pony tails were in style on guys. Made me just want.... to... reach... out.... and... cut it off! Just like I want to reach...out..... and.... pull.... some.... pants up!

Your first statement is absolutely correct. The converse of that statement is absolutely incorrect.

When the inside is right, it shows on the outside. When the outside is "right" it doesn't automatically show up on the inside.

In my opinion, that's been one of the problems with the "holiness" movement thru the years. We get people prayed thru, baptized, and the first thing we do is give them the "standards" speech so they can sing on the platform.

In my experience, in many churches, the matters of the heart are often skimmed over, because our intent is to get people to "look right" so they can sing in the choir.

Inward holiness manifests itself on the outside, as Jesus said, but outward standard do not automatically guarantee inward holiness, nor can outward standards protect inward holiness.
Good post!

Jesus told the Pharisees, "You look great on the outside, but really you are just paint burial tombs, with death inside." Also, "You wash the outside of the cup but the inside is filthy." He didn't seem to be in the least impressed with their external appearance. Why it this so hard to understand?

So, outward appearance, while maybe, serving as a hint to the inside, in no way PROTECTS inward holiness.
