Supplements/herbs

Just thought I start a thread to hear from others about if they taken supplement/herbs with goog results. I'll start

I've taken mangosteen juice for irritable bowel. I went on a 6 day fast and it threw my system in a tail spin, never happen before from fasting. By taking mangosteen, Noni juices it cleared it up. There's also a apple cider mixture I hear is realy good for the GI.

I have suffered from migraines for years. Mine are hormonal-related. I started taking Dong Quai as a preventative, and no more migraines.

My husband had a boil, and I gave him Red Clover Blossoms, and it healed.

I got a really good book called "Prescription for Herbal Healing" by Phyllis A. Balch and it is really helpful, especially when just starting to learn this stuff.

(P.S. those are just a couple examples. We have been making major changes in our home involving diet and OTC meds and such, and have all been much healthier)

One has to be very careful with herbal supplements and vitamins, as there are certain medications that are contraindicated, and even medical conditions as well.

When asked what meds you take, always include vitamins, herbal supplements, and OTC meds, not just prescriptions.

Wink Nutrition???

I've been self medicating for 30+ years. I take vitamins and herbal supplements. I think it helps my over all health. Even if you're not a nutcase like myself it's important to remember that #1 The RDA levels on vitamins are probably much too low. #2 Even if you eat healthy, you cannot get all the necessary nutrition from the "American" diet.

On a recent 9 hr trip I listened to a CD by the guy that ate at Mac D's for a month. He gives some scary info on our typical fast food frenzy.
I was never a fast food addict but I did stop for a quick burger or my favorite, a jamoca shake from Arby's. Now I can't do it.

The nutrition advice is to shop the perimeter of the grocery store and stay away from anything in a box. Easy to say if you don't work 40 hours +5 hours for lunch,18 mile round trip to work.....it's all about time!!!!!

If you read the ingredient panel you end up putting it back on the shelf.
The worst offender is high fructose corn syrup. I already knew it was the bad dude but the CD gave lots more data on the evils of hfcs. Don't eat it!!

Not a supplement, but Oolong tea (green...yuk!) is supposed to be excellent for lowering cholesterol...my FIL drinks it every morning religiously and has had great results.
