Where did you hear that poodles don't shed?

I groom dogs for a living and yes, they do too shed!!!!!!!

They are a "low allergen" dog. In other words, if someone has allergies, they are one of the better dogs to have. They don't affect allergies like other dogs do.

Poodles do indeed shed but for some reason when they are mixed with either Labs or Golden reterivers, they don't and they make the most beautiful dogs. they are really popular- all the craze.

actually, the Golden doodles are a little more. I think that's the price of the labadoodles.

The Bay Area folks will buy them for 1,200. The people there have a Lot of money.

So,obviously you must be talking about the rich folks that live in the Bay Area right. Because I live in the Bay Area and I don't have a Lot of money. Oh, wait a minute I just found my lottery ticket maybe I won.Just joking about the lottery ticket part.

Well........ the four poodles (all purebred) that I have had in the course of the past 40 years did not shed like other dogs. Yes, when your brush them or groom them, they will lose hair. But they don't just shed their coat all over the place like other breeds do. (At least none of mine did - they were all toy poodles - the last one I had for 17 years - what a sweetheart!) I have also had a cocker spaniel and she left hair all over the place when we let her inside. That's just been my experience with them.

It's true that they don't shed as much hair, but they do lose hair. But the hair that they do shed is extremely fine and will make your nose itch like crazy......, but they are usually one of the calmer dogs to groom. I'd rather groom them than a Shihtzu. The Shihtzu's are more high strung much and harder to groom. They are all cute, but some are easier to groom than others and a poodle is one of the easiest going dogs.

BTW, Sweetpea....I hope that that did not sound like I was jumping on you, or anything. I was just stating that they do shed, the only reason I know is that I had just asked the vet that I work for if they did shed. Someone, yesterday had said that they didn't shed and he said ALL dogs shed, some just worse than others and poodles were on the "low" list.

LCS No way............ I knew you weren't "jumping on" me. I think my idea of "sheddng" and other people's may be different. To me "shedding" is when hair gets everywhere - just touch them and you have a handful of hair - not just coming out when they are brushed or groomed. I know how fine poodles hair can be. When I got my first poodle as a teenager, I had great aspirations of grooming my own dog and possibly even being paid to groom others. Spent all my babysitting savings on an expensive pair of clippers and other supplies - only to realize that I was okay with poodles as long as I wasn't clipping their hair. That fine stuff would set me to sneezing and my eyes would swell shut.

I love poodles - some people think they are finicky and snooty - but mine have always had such cute personalities.
