1. Just wanted to know if you had "heart".
2. If you don't join something you're an independent. (Can be very lonely)
3. I'm concerned

As we both know, "independent" can be defined in various ways. I am "independent" of an organization. However, I am not "independent" of a number of brethren whom I consider advisers, mentors, and counselors.

Any man that takes this approach to being independant will be ok.

When men be come "independent" of organization, advisors, mentors and counselors they not only walk a lonely road but there is no saftey net in their life.

KP and I don't agree on a lot of things but I think he will be ok because of the saftey net he has in his life.

3. What is your point?
So you were one of the "13"?

Were you offered/issued a refund of monies already paid for the year by either WEC or the district?

Not at all. I have no idea how you got that impression. I consider Brother Booker my friend, and have done a few things to work with him, but I have never "pushed" the meeting. I defend their right to put together a fellowship. Furthermore, I defend the integrity of the men at the helm. I know several of them personally, and believe their motives are pure.

I plan to go to Tulsa and hear their plans. They may change my mind. However, at this point, it is my intention to not join any group. I have been blessed with a tremendous circle of fellowship -- and leadership -- and don't personally feel the need to "belong" to a group.

First of all, the "13" is not fully accurate. I personally know of at least 25 men who have turned in their cards. I am guessing there are many others of whom I am not personally aware. I think some of the confusion may be because men sent their cards to their DISTRICT rather than to HEADQUARTERS. Their district boards must act on their decision to withdraw. Thus, there may have only been 13 who sent their license to Headquarters, but there are several others who have turned in their cards. Furthermore, there are a number of men who did not renew their dues at the end of September, and are not counted among the "13."

So, in answer to your first question, I don't know if I am counted among the "13" or not. I sent my card to my District Superintendent, although I did send a copy of my letter to Brother Haney and Brother Jones.

As for the second question, no I was not offered a refund of my dues, although they were paid through the end of the year. It is my understanding that a portion of those dues are used to pay for life insurance. However I was told that my insurance would be canceled on November 1. I was also informed that my withdrawal still had to be reviewed by the Executive Board (which will not meet until February).

How's that for a long answer to two short questions?

Thad,

Why do you say that? I haven't changed my tone -- or my mind. I've been defending the meeting, but not "pushing" it.

Actually very straight forward as I anticipated.

I was being a little facetious with the "13". Thus the quotes. Interestingly enough I know of 1 case where a minister submitted their credentials directly to WEC and was told they could not accept it directly but it would have to be acted on by the district board first and they were sending it to the district.

My actual point in all this is to do a check on the "ethics police" on this board who continually harp that if the men leaving were ethical they would turn in their cards and resign rather than just let their dues lapse. It will be interesting to see if they believe that those like yourself should receive a refund.
