Actually, this tradition came down thru the Stuckey line in our family. They came from Alsace Lorraine, France. But that area was at different times in history under either France, Switzerland or Germany. So who knows? And it's very possible (even likely) that the Stuckeys actually migrated to the area from Switzerland a few generations prior.

My grandma always said of my grandfather (the Stuckey guy) that he was "German and Dutch and not worth much".

I found out how 2/3rds of that was true when I began doing our genealogy.

Yea,most of us are not pure anything. I hear people say" he is a pure German". I kinda doubt it especially if one has been in America for a few generations

I don't know that I am "pure"... but I know my people moved from Germany to Switzerland for a couple generations and then to America as a part of William Penn's experiment. I do know they were all German/Swiss for the past 15 generations. (Not that i have any great pride in this)

That is soooooooo true!!

Another thing I've learned doing genealogy is that, if your family has been here since the early days of our country, there is a high percentage of possibility that you are not completely one race either. There was alot of bad stuff going on between slave owners and slaves (NONE of us should be proud of that). There was also a good lot of inter-marriage and inter-other-stuff between the American Indians and those of non-Indian descent. Add to that all of the other inter-racial relationships that went on down thru the generations.

Makes me amazed that we even bother to put a "race" box on forms anymore.

I don't mean for this to become something to argue over. Just stating a bit of what I've learned over the years

and that's why the majority of the african Americans are much lighter then true africans from Africa.
I've noticed a lot of white caucasion people from Oklahoma have high cheek bones - they've mixed a lot with the native indians

I had organic flax waffles for b'fast and just finished coconut crusted chicken tenderloins sammich with provolone cheese on rye.

Not sure what I'll have for supper. Probably leftover organic whole wheat spaghetti with lamb meatballs and sauce.
