Hey, I didn't mean any harm, seriously. I just thought you might like to know how an outsider viewed that church sign. Pardon me for making you aware of how others see you. I would've thought you'd want to know. Sorry.

Hi acharris. Did you see my post here?
I can't say that I know Anthong Mangun closely, but I do remember when the church in Alexandria first began to use that phrase. As I remember it, he was really looking to challenge the local assembly in a "get back to our roots" type of fashion. I don't think he ever had exclusivity toward other Pentecostals in mind at all. And until relatively recently, they were the only UPC church in town; just to answer another question posted earlier.
If you have concerns about the sign I would encourage you to talk to AM himself. He's very approachable and would probably love to hear from a fellow pastor. And who knows? Maybe he's been ready for a new theme anyway.

Actually, that is not true. I have personal reasons that have nothing to do with conservative or liberal.

Although late into this conversation, I want to add:
I also have wondered about the many name changes from First United Pentecostal Church of Anywhere to The Pentecostals of Anywhere ... I wondered if it was happening for either of the two reasons below:
1) Churches were trying to copy AMangun's success...
and, or
2) It was intended to conjure up a liberal label for a UPC church.
Just my thoughts.
I really do not think the changes were made to say that we are the ONLY Pentecostals... (although many UPCers DO think they are the only TRUE ones... and also DO think they are the only ones going to heaven... So I do see the reasoning behind the thread question.)

Just my opinion here, I really don't think that any one church's name or sign was deigned to be exclusionary or to place it above another assemblies.
I sure hope that the statement in bold, in your experience would be the rarity and not the norm. In the time that I have been affiliated with the UPCI (raised and grazed), I have never met a pastor, minister or official who ever proclaimed that the UPCI was the one, true and only body of Christ. I would never look at my family members who are not UPC, but are Oneness Pentecostal ministers, and say that you are not going to heaven because you don't belong to the right organization.

Only those who look UPC, of course. You can spot them pretty easy.

You know, I was raised in a UPC pastor's home, and of all the ministers, pastors, evangelists, presbyters, etc. that we hung out with, I cannot remember hearing a single preacher EVER say that only UPCers would be saved. My Daddy fellowshipped with PAW, ALJC, Independents, AMF, and a few AOG.
Where do you people get your ideas?

Did your daddy believe that the PAW, ALJC, Independents and AOG were saved?

Yes to PAW, ALJC, Ind., AMF, and yes to the AOG if they followed the Word of God.
Again, I have never heard a single UPC minister say that only UPCers were saved. Have you actually heard that? Or are you just pontificating?
