To minister here a preacher must wear suit and tie. The men who lead the service are required to wear a dress shirt and tie.
Whole Hearted, our music department abides by the same rule, for appearance sake. But on Wednesday nights we have class for everyone (in lieu of Sunday-Sunday school), and its casual. The learning isn't any less important or effective just because folks show up in casual clothing.

Never said it was wrong. I know from my great grandparent that some old timers preached in overall, because that was all they had. But as times got better they gave God their best.
It isn't a sin, but here a preacher who is preaching will wear a suit and tie.
Personally I prefer to wear a suit and tie or dress shirt and dress pants to church.
However I don't judge those that don't ,and yes I can get with a preacher who doesn't wear a suit and tie.
I do look we should look presentable in church,whatever we wear.
To me a suit and tie is personal preference.

I haven't read the entire thread, so this may have been addressed. A lot of our emphasis upon dress and dressing standards comes from our "other side of the track" mentality.
We are often encouraged to "dress up" to "honor the house of God" but the real motivation is that the pastor and his wife evaluate themselves on how "their" saints look, and the pastor and his wife need to feel good about themselves- so you'd better fall into line!
I was in a church once where the pastor's wife was coaching the people with newer cars to park along the street where they would be more visible to people driving by. Once the pastor greeted one young family as they were driving in, "Anybody hurt in that wreck?" and laughed.
Nobody wants to have to pastor a bunch of hillbillies. Best just to keep your mouth shut and dress up as best you can. Oh, and park that heap around back.
