LOL!! I don't think you'll get honest answers; everyone will plead out.

Are dental braces considered cosemetic in denistry??? A lot of Apostolics think nothing about getting braces to have their teeth straightend-usually to enhance their looks - no?

Braces are definitely cosmetic; they aren't usually essential. Whitening teeth is cosmetic too, as is tanning (whether in the tanning beds or with lotions). People tend to do whatever they want and then blast the things that don't interest them.

Re: Cosmetic Surgery? yes or no

I have had 2 surgeries that are considered cosmetic.. yet they were in all actuality for medical reasons... I had an overbite as a young kid.. over an inch and half.. was unable to chew my food or talk properly because it was so severe. I had oral surgery.. they broke my jaw and pushed the top up half an inch and then back an inch and pulled the lower out an inch. My jaw had to be wired shut for 9 weeks. I had braces before that...

I also had nose surgery... considered cosmetic. I was hit by a drunk driver 4 days after I got my drivers license. It threw my car 100 ft into a parking lot and tore up my face. The only way for me to breathe out of my nose again would be to have nose surgery and restructure my nose... so yep.. I have and I would do it again in a heartbeat...

Braces are not always cosmetic... In the case of my youngest daughter. Her teeth have all formed sideways because of a genetic defect on her fathers side.. The only way to correct this is with braces Not always the case

I also had maxifacial surgery - - open bite and my teeth were starting to turn inward so that I couldn't chew. My top jaw was crooked, so they straightened it, brought my bottom jaw line out more to match and now I don't have an open bite. Broke my jaw in four places and wired shut for six weeks (lost 20 lbs). Also, deviated septum that they corrected for my sinuses which made the bump on my nose (from a break) smaller.

I also had another medical cosmetic surgery to help my shoulders and back - that's as far as I'm going on that one.

None of mine were for vain or beauty reasons..........

Re: Cosmetic Surgery? yes or no

Sherri, you are soooooooo right. 2 years ago I went to NALC with someone from KY. She got angry because one of the praise singers had colored her gray hair, brown. I asked my friend how she felt about teeth whitening...she kinda stumbled. Well, she said, we need to let nature take it's course. I said, do you shave your legs and armpits?? She said, yep. I said, there is no difference. You try to keep things looking as best as you can the older you get.
