A Question About Singles Ministry..

Here are some questions regarding Singles Ministry.

1. Is there a law that says a married couple needs to be the leader?

2. Is there a good break down of ages in the Singles Ministry?
(I believe that we need more age appropriate ministry Especially within the UPC Such as)

My Idea!

Jr. High Youth, Ages 12 – 15
Sr. High Youth, Ages 15 – 19
College and Career, Ages 20 – 29
Singles, Ages 30 – 49
Top of the Line, Ages 50 – and up

I had this discussion with Todd Gaddy the former Youth President of the UPCI and we talked about the fact that the Singles of the UPC are under the umbrella of the SS Dept. and the Young Married are under the Youth Department. We both decided that it made no sense. I don’t have a problem with the elders but our lives at different places and I think that having more distinction in the age groups would really be more beneficial. I don’t attend many Singles Conferences because the majority of the focus is for the College and Career age and too many who may be elderly. It’s just not a good mix. THIS IS NOT A SLAM ON ANYONE all of my closest friends are married and of different ages..

It is my opinion that a Married Couple has no business leading a single's ministry. They have no clue the needs and it is difficult for anyone to get behind them because they are married and in a single's group.

Singles don't need a group in their teens. They need one in their 30's.

A good breakdown would be 30-50, and then 50 & up lead by a single in that age bracket.

Blessings,
Rhoni

I have seen a vast amount of churches that put a married couple over the singles ministry when there was a single person that could do the job. I've asked this question to a few in Ministry and usually they put a married couple in charge because they want to make sure us singels behave with each other. I just think that logic is silly. (Thankfully we a have Single in charge of the Singles Ministry at my churh and he does a good job)

Thanks..

The youth would be kept with the youth. I was using the entire break down that my friend and I discussed. We wouldn't mix the two groups.

There should be:

A YOUTH Ministry
Jr. High Youth Ministry
Sr. High Youth Ministry up to age 19

A College and Career Ministry
They need an entire ministry of their own. Age 20 - 29

A Singles Ministry
starting at 30 and ending at 49

A Seniors and or Elders Ministry
50 and up...I think that for some, they don't mind being combined with all the other elders of the church. Married, Single, Widow, etc.

Nice and clean, no overlap of the breakdown of ages....
