I have been trying to mentally calculate just how much poop 15 puppies will generate before they will be old enough to give away. The mental picture I was generating got too messy though and I had to just stop after concluding "a LOT".
I think you should find out which woman at the vet gave your wife that advice... and take her at least half of the puppies. After all, it's partially her fault you have them. LOL

It was funny though because after she was not in heat any longer the main neighborhood dog that had been coming around came to the fence around our yard close to her all hopeful one more time. When she was in heat she would flirt with him and liked his attention. Now that she wasn't she growled at him really bad. My wife was with her at the time and said that poor ole boy dog looked shocked and crestfallen at her reaction to him. He turned and slowly walked way.
