He is articulate and .... dare say ... willing to confront all detractors on all sides.

It will be refreshing to see a GS that has some backbone and is willing to say what's on his mind.

This is proof, imo, that he was among those who pushed for this resolution.

On another note .... it has taken more than a decade to convince the org to allow Spanish ministries to be it's own division ... and the official position was that SEM had to be economically solvent until this ever happened. Interestingly, it still isn't but the org has decided that the fastest growing segment in the org now should have it's own division. I know they don't have the funding for this ... nor does SEM have a secret stash of money in their account ... since HMD kept it all ... but I find the timing of this decision to be politically expedient.

Of course the timing is politically expedient, as was the Emancipation Proclamation for Lincoln !!( Which was done just in time to stop France from rendering aid aka $$$ to the South.)

However, personally I believe its something Bernard wanted to do anyway and now was a good time to push it through.

It will be a good thing for all. We need it.

Re: David Bernard Weighs In on General Board Decis

So the consensus is it is IMPOSSIBLE for the UPCI to evolve?

Sorry I see too many signs that is happening already. And would once again point to the very existence of the WPF as further evidence than mainstream UPCI is moving more mainstream. Isn't that WPF's own contention and worldview ??

(Even if as MOW pointed out a few decades late)

What an absolutely delicious irony of fate that I would turn out to be the UPCI apologist on this thread!!!!!

Someone call Pastor Poster quick...

Evolve? By retrenching to appease Cons who are leaving or have one foot out the door?

Old habits die hard.

It is hard for any of us to truly believe that the UPC could evolve in this manner.

It is true that the constituency itself is leaning a little leftward of late. But until some changes are made in writing we are still under the control of a group that has recently left the building.

The situation is, at best, stagnant currently.
And the org is banking on the Spanish community to help reinvigorate it.

Maybe they will help more immigrants obtain citizenship?

With all due respect it is only "retrenching" IF you are correctly reading between the lines and applying a secret da Vinci code.

You may well be right. Personally I'm willing to take what the man says at face value for now.

I was a product of JCM, I changed.

Many of the ultra-cons of yesteryear are now moderates on this forum.

Bernard and many his age WANT to escape the old paradigms.

(And yes AE I am aware of DB's hardcore positions of two decades ago, but I also believe him a man of integrity and willing to evolve.)

Re: David Bernard Weighs In on General Board Decis

Very interesting comparison to the Emacipation Proclamation, Grif.

The decision to create a new division for SEM is curious at best since it will create new salaried positions months after layoffs in PPH (which I hear is bleeding) ... and scratching those who were involved in translating materials into Spanish since that was in the red also.

Danielito how could hot latin blood not reinvigorate?

On the other hand, most of the Apostolic Latins I personally have encountered lean a little right of center.
