Re: Do you automatically trust a man called Preach

I'll give anyone the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise. Give me a preacher who is better at using the towel of service than the sword of power and I'll follow his lead as he follows Jesus anywhere!!!

Re: Do you automatically trust a man called Preach

I was going to say absolutely not. Then I was going to admit that yes, I do. Then I decided my reality is probably somewhere in between those.

I don't trust easily in the first place, so you can probably call my yes everyone else's "with extreme caution". lol

I check preachers out. What's the internet say about them? What do people in their church say about them? The community? What does the preacher say about God? How's he act? How does the preacher interact with members of the congregation? His friends? Yeah, some of those are difficult to see, some I haven't seen about every preacher I've checked out. Some I have.

How a preacher prays means more to me than almost anything else. Is he talking to his deepest and dearest friend, or is he putting on a show? I've only heard a handful of men pray who have made me look up to make sure they were even praying, they were speaking to their most intimate friend, definitely not putting on some show. Each of these men have impacted me greatly. (and, someday I hope to add a woman or two to this mix..lol I have honestly never heard a woman pray who was praying like this, yet at least).

The best trust is trust that is earned... even at best, all men are bound to fail now and then...

Pastor, Preacher, etc: are all titles or positions.
They are however inhabited by people, made up of fallen humanity.

It is the people you learn to, or who have earned your trust.

There are certain expectations associated with the office that should draw us into a trusting relationship just as you would automatically trust a police officer, a judge, or a doctor.

With age comes wisdom and life experiences that NOW tell me, I can trust to a certain degree, but keep my eyes wide open.

I think the Mrs. has it right... eyes open! (and that goes for anyone in a position of authority... )
I don't look for the bad in preachers, lawyers or anyone else, but it's only wise to be careful. There are men who only masquerade as Godly men and Godly preachers... I'm glad I don't know any personally!!! The Bible refers to them as wolves in sheeps clothing.

I agree with each of the above post. My hubby is also a Pastor.

Re: Do you automatically trust a man called Preach

Actually, the question is faulty. (Please take that kindly) The word "automatically" is what makes it faulty. Trust is not something that come automatically because it is a factor in relationship. Love, respect, trust, are all attributes that grow as the relationship grows.
