That was the problem - - it had gotten under my cover and I didn't realize it. I was scared it would die. I turned it off for a while and from now on I'll make sure it's always on top of the cover.

You should be more concerned with fire danger dear. Don't do that again! Keep it in open. BTW to keep the laptop cool you can buy a special "table" to set it on with vents built in...maybe secure the PS to it somehow
