Ppl like Star and Bill I dont 100% agree with because they are getting ahead by putting down those in their own race. Well, Bill, he got his issue legit, at first doing stand up. Back then, he was TRUE to his race. He didnt put his ppl down...
Now that he got something and now the whole country empathizes with him because of what happen to Ennis, now he is really popular with some folks. And that is cool. This is a free country...
BUT
I believe as an African American woman in this country there is a way to
succeed' without putting down my own ppl or yes, I will go there...selling out!
Thats it...Star and BC are sellouts!
Is Obama a sellout? NO! Because he is staying true to his people AND at the same time reaching out to a country that needs REAL leadership in office. His appeal crossovers race and that is an act of God.
He is an example of what I am talking about.
But in order for that to happen, this country DOES has to openly and honestly address racial issues.
And we cant get all scared and whatever when someone's been talking like Wright.
It is called Black empowerment. That is more powerful than Bills millions to the UNCF. Or colleges...or Star's futile attempts at enlightening us on how we, too, can make it if we give our race the finger.
No, I'd rather not burn my bridges.
That's real, that's truth, and it is HIGH time that this stuff has come to this country's head.
OBAMA - US FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENT! For shizzle, for rizzle!!!!
Sorry, but this is pathetic. It truly is.
A black man speaks about problems among people of his own race is now considered to be 'selling out'.
That's pathetic. It truly is.

All you Jeremiah Wright sympathizers...
What's your excuse for the fact that he accuses the US govt of creating the AIDS virus to kill black people?
That is a flat out lie and Rev Wright is an educated man who knows, or should know better.

Daniel 12:3 And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars for ever.
Again I think you're showing your failure to understand....the civil rights movement is still alive and well. When it comes to what African American's faced it's more like a muffled, "Sorry about that. NOW, let's get back to business...."
There's a big difference.
There is a big difference. It is a glaring difference. What am I to honestly expect from individuals-- individuals who really have no hate or ill will towards anyone because of their race? What am I to expect from individuals who see the classism in effect, but are powerless themselves to change it because they really don't make that much more money than me anyway?
"The White Man's Burden" can not be fairly borne by all white people when all whites aren't part of the problem.
Let's start another ten government programs to help the people affected most by the policies of Jim Crow and its affects. Jim Crow was real. The affects are real and still will be felt for years to come.
But Chris, I'm not sure more government programs will help much either-- not by themselves.
Really, MY GOVT, the govt I swore to defend, could do more in the form of an actual acknowledgement of the wrongs. If they did it tomorrow, there are some of my fellow black Americans that still wouldn't do what they need to do to fix themselves and their situation.
Again, there's enough BLAME for everyone. If MY GOVT never apologizes, I am still never going to resort to what some black folks resort to-- thus increasing my own pain and diminishing my own chances for victory over the affects of American racism.

Reason: clarity
Chris, does your wife go on and on about what was done to 'her people'? If not, why not? If so, isn't it about time she move on?
If we are still giscussing J Wright, it is my impression that he isn't the woe is me, pity me type.
I have only heard part of his sermon, but was Wright condemning "whites" or in abroad sense, Americans? If so, is he racist? I'm not sure if racist is the word..... but if I have forgotten something let me know.

The people I'm talking about were born in the 70's. But, please note, I don't think the cashier's actions are worse than Jeremiah Wright's words. He was far more over the top with his comments. My point was simply that there are little everyday things that black people deal with that we don't even realize. Again...you're missing my point, inflating my argument, trying to refute the argument you inflated, and...missing the point.
That is a good point, true statement. What is also true is that in order for your friend to be your friend, on some level, he has decided to not let the actions of others stop him from being your friend. He has decided to not let the actions of others affect him.
My fellow black Americans who have not learned that life lesson really need to learn that lesson before their life has slipped away-- then they will old, bitter, and lacking a reason or person to blame except for themselves for giving white people they don't even know, so much power.

You refuse to see it, instead citing small, private, or one-time incidents in comparison with what he's done.
All he's done? We are talking about a "Pastor" who has done may OUTSTANDING things for his community. His sermons are embittering, but after that-- ?
If the bulk of his sermons over the last 20 years have been that embittering, he's done much more to hurt his parishoners than anyone else. We wouldn't even know he exists, if Obama wasn't running for President.

We dont say anything to the Jews who were tortured and killed in the Holocaust. As a matter of fact, this country goes out of its way to commemorate the historical atrocity. No one tells the Jews to get over it, move on, what's ya beef?
So why is it that when blacks commemorate what they went thru for centuries (the Holocaust was only a few years...), then it is addressed as racial anger????
There is a lot of truth in this statement. You should have made it without minimizing the Jewish experience.
You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Enough said. Society is not the blame. There are role models that have gone on before them, they obviously don't want to follow, JMHO. I see it all the time, every day. It's getting ridiculous, especially in a tech society. PULEEZE!
You have a great point. But honestly, the not so distant past still does have its affects, still should be addressed and the progress that we all want to see will not happen in one or two generations-- especially since what has helped to make things the way they are today happened for MANY generations.
