You're over simplifying. The man was speaking against perceived evils of America playing God. I'm willing to consider that his sermon ended on a note of how it doesn't have to be this way.

The point he is trying to make is that the point JW was trying to make in his sermon is that the USA isn't an innocent victim in what happened on 9/11. We have done more than our fair share of bombing other countries and killing innocent people to sit back and pretend that we haven't contributed to the hatred our enemies have for us. We operate under this notion that everyone else in the world wants to be like we are, so we make a point of trying to bring democracy and our way of life to the rest of the world, by force if need be. Get it now?

It isnt a gut feeling it is an actual fact. I have seen any number of documentaries on the History Channel discussing it. I remember studying this in college.
