Excellent post, CH!

Bro...Obama just wanted to accept that the comments were over the top and move on. But I don't see any reason to crucify him over this. It was a sermon...a sermon I didn't hear in it's entirety.

Did you?
It is not the words of Jer Wright that will seal Obama.

It is the private words he attributed to his white grandmother.

To me he wanted to speak very clearly to the nation.

I know that "White Folk" have racist issues towards us African American's.

I heard the words come out of my own Grandmothers mouth.

To me it is down right biased and racist to call "Obama", or Halle Berry African American.

Since when do we accept that when a person has an African American parent and a Caucasian parent we reduce one half of their heritage by calling them African American.

To me they are multi ethnic and should be proud of their entire heritage.

Tiger Woods has also reduced his ethnic heritage by reducing his mothers heritage.

Halle Berry and Obama both do not want to be associated with their heritage and white mothers.

To me that is the biggest form of racism, reducing yourself from the family heritage that shaped you.

If I were Obama I would not allow folks to simply call me African American, Period.

American society devalues Black life, and every Black child knows it. Criminals operate within the parameters of the society in which they live, just like everybody else. They weigh their chances as they roll the dice. Every African American citizen in the nation understands that the dice are loaded mightily against them if they are convicted of a crime against a white person. It is only logical that the criminal-minded would choose Black targets of opportunity. After all, that's what white criminals did during Jim Crow. They were confident of impunity, when committing outrages against Black men and women. Why should Black criminals act any differently?

Black-on-Black crime is a product of white racism, which sees African Americans as less than full human beings. The Black criminal takes advantage of that fact

Chosen, this is a subjective statement based upon a biased opinion. Can you at least elaborate a little more, perhaps provide some sources and links to this profound claim. Please.

There's more on the Democratic position out there. I suggest researching Democrats actually believe about welfare...not what Republicans say they believe. Much has changed from the failed welfare policies of the 70's.
what fifteen or twenty moderates who claim to be democrats believe does not undo the 75 year history of the democrat party.

dude, YOU are picking between two of the most liberal individuals running for president. (I might respect your support of a guy like Bill Richardson)

the Dems have elected 2 extremely left wing ideologues to lead their efforts in the House and Senate.

YOUR leadership is ultra-liberal, and not amount of linking to non-libreals will un-do reality. sorry Bro. i aint buying what your selling.

Chris, I am looking at the policy that comes out of the actual democrat party. not the talk you are talking about some minority subsect that genreally gets the back of the rank and files hands (see Joe Leiberman)

Black on black crime is endemic not to mention black on white crime that you don't hear reported as such much of the time because of "sensitivties". This is a horrible problem for the black community but it is not the white man's fault. At some point they have to take personal responsibility. I applaud Bill Cosby for finally addressing these issues, because as you point out it has to come from within. People like me are just some honkey they don't listen to.
CC1,

Please watch this documentary on plea bargains and how many poor and minorities end up making plea bargains after intense threats from prosecution. It’s surprising how many accept incarceration through pleas than fight for their innocence in court because they’re scared or their public legal counsel isn’t sufficient.

Bro. Ferd,

You guys are missing so many details on this issues I find it hard to take you seriously bro. I’ll tie this into the justice issue regarding plea bargains….the system disproportionately pressures poor minorities into plea bargains landing them in jail or prison often for crimes they didn’t commit or incorrect charges. Of course more wealthy individuals get better counsel and get a more just, and even in some cases, an outstanding defense when they are guilty as sin. This is a racial/economic issue the black community deals with daily.

I know it’s difficult to admit or understand…but Jeremiah’s position is based on his experiences and the experiences black American families face every day. I gave this link to CC1, I’ll give it to you to. Review this documentary and let’s pick up the discussion afterwards.

Re: FOX Lies!! Barack Obama Pastor Wright

found on EURweb.com

*Hell officially froze over at the right-leaning Fox News Channel Friday when one of its anchors complained live on the air about the unfair and biased reporting of Sen. Barack Obama by his Fox colleagues.

It all started with Obama's speech on race last Tuesday, when he said his white grandmother had felt nervous passing black men on the street. On Thursday, while trying to clarify his remarks, he called his grandmother a “typical white person.”

The hosts of “Fox & Friends” jumped all over both comments Friday as they played his "typical white person" quote over and over again and questioned if Obama's remarks were offensive.

During the program's third hour, Chris Wallace of the weekend political talk show “Fox News Sunday” called out the “Fox & Friends” crew and complained that they were taking Obama's comments out of context. [Scroll down to view clip.]

“It seems to me that two hours of Obama-bashing on this ‘typical white person’ remark is somewhat excessive, and frankly I think you’re somewhat distorting what Obama had to say,” Wallace said during his regularly scheduled segment on the morning show.

Before Wallace’s appearance, “Fox & Friends” host Brian Kilmeade had walked off the set amid an exchange about Obama’s comments. David Brown, the show’s executive producer, told the New York Times that Kilmeade had been kidding around, although some bloggers didn’t get the joke. One blog sarcastically referred to an outbreak of the “the truth virus” at Fox.

A blogger for Obama’s Web site said that the campaign had “appreciated Mr. Wallace for doing his job as a tough but fair journalist on a network that has been deeply irresponsible over the last week in its unrelenting and sensationalistic coverage” of the candidate.

Perhaps Wallace's uncharacteristic defense of Obama has to do with a long-standing plea for the Democratic presidential candidate to come on his show. On March 16, Wallace introduced “The Obama Watch,” a countdown clock borrowed from the Fox drama “24” (complete with the tick-tock noise) that displayed the number of days, hours, minutes and seconds elapsed since Obama had apparently promised to appear on “Fox News Sunday.”

The Democratic Platform for America: on Welfare & Poverty

Raise EITC & minimum wage to $7 & expand middle class
The dream of the middle class should belong to all Americans willing to work for it. We still have work to do as long as millions of Americans work full-time, fulfill their responsibilities, and continue to live in poverty. We will offer these Americans a ladder to the middle class. That means raising the minimum wage to $7.00, increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit and extending child credits so that parents who work full-time don't have to raise their children in poverty And it means continuing on the path of welfare reform. We must match parents' responsibility to work with the real opportunity to do so, by making sure parents can get the health care, child care, and transportation they need. And we must expect increased responsibility from fathers as well as mothers by increasing child support enforcement and promoting responsible fatherhood together with religious and civic organizations.

Welfare as you describe it...is a state by state issue.
