That is unless one's politics tends to be more liberal. Populism, according to Webster's dictionary, is a political philosophy directed to the needs of the common people and advocating a more equitable distribution of wealth and power. Our elected officials are elected to represent…the people. Here’s a fundamental difference I have seen between political conservatives and liberals; conservatives seem to think that we elect leaders to lead in spite of the people’s will…liberals tend to think that we elect leaders to serve the will of the people. And right now…the Republicans aren’t as populist as you think. A narrow, but growing, majority of the people don’t trust them on issues such as the economy, health care, social security, domestic infrastructure, or even social values. Tell me….how do the Republicans expect to regain power if they are not populist and the people that pay them to represent their interests aren’t pleased with the job they commit to doing? I’d argue that the Republicans are in the hot seat because they’re not populist enough. Their disassociated with the common man and are only focused on the interests of the ultra wealthy…Republican policies are even hurting small business owners. Unless you’re a massive corporation, the Republican policies will stampede you. Most business owners I know are scratching their heads because the Republicans promised to be the pro-business party. Well….small businesses are taking a beating in Ohio and many other areas that were once prosperous. It makes no sense. Oh…but oil companies, military contractors, weapons developers, and insurance companies are reporting record profits. Even a rising number of investors are worried. Bro…the only thing the Republicans have that MIGHT be a something the people trust them to do is national defense. And an increasing number of Americans are starting to see how wreckless they’ve been on this issue too.
Get ready…in November the people will speak at the ballot box. I predict that Obama will decisively defeat McCain.
