My niece qualified for the Women's Olympic...

My niece qualified for the women's Olympic marathon trials. She is running with the top 150 marathoners in the country, if she can be in the top three then she walks with a $30-60,000 purse and a ticket to Beijing as a member of the olympic team.

That is kinda blowing my mind just now. Just to compete in this class of atheletes is an amazing achievement.

We are going up to Boston in a couple weeks to see her run.

Her Bio: http://bostontrials2008.com/index.cfm?pk=bio&bioID=160

I know kinda carnal, but sure am proud of that girl.

She has to trim minimum 15 minutes off her time to get a top three spot. But Megan runs 130-150 miles per week.

Last time I talked to her I told her "Eh? I drive that every two days..."

That's so cool! Is she afraid to go to Beijing? Did you see the protestors today in California at the Olympic torch?

If that was my niece, I'd be proud too. I actually have a niece that I thought would try to get to compete in the Olymics or some games anyway, but she found a better deal. She married a man in med school and they are expecting their second child this summer.

Nah, I don't think she expects to go. She would have to trim more than 30/seconds a mile to rank top three.

She is a short girl with short legs, stride counts. It is just awesome that she is running in the trials period.

But she has heart and trains hard...so who knows!

yeah, I did see the protests, China's human rights record is somewhere between abysmal and whatever is below abysmal. Pity that the olympics end up being political.

Pretty impressive achievement Bro Atkinson!
I was on the distance team in track & field in high school about a hundred years ago.
It takes a great deal of effort & passion to accomplish this.

BTW, the last I heard you were going for a job interview, how did it go?
