What if it's family? I hesitate to go to this desperate a measure right now. My husband and I feel the need to first confront the family member who is caring for this elder about the lack of care.

Here's the scenario...please any and all tell me if I'm over reacting.

93 yr. old diabetic woman living with her daughter. She get's bathed once a week, only changes her clothes when she feels like it, eats what she wants to and is only monitoring her blood sugar two times/week. Blood sugar has been slighly elevated for some time now. Her pills/meds are not being monitored - she keeps her meds in her walker and self-administers them. Her bed at home was too high for her so the box spring was removed from the bed...she had a broken back years ago and suffers from osteoporosis. Her robe reaked of urine...

On top of this, in a week or so, 93 yr. old will be taken by daughter several hours away from home to stay in a camp trailer for 2 weeks to a place that I'm not even sure has water hookups. Needless to say, I'm VERY concerned about her welfare...not exactly sure what to do. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

That is appropriate.

Let this family member know that "she" is responsible and will be held accountable if something happens.
