Many years ago someone told me we shouldn't say "good luck" to a person.
They suggested saying as God wills or a variation of that thought.
I don't believe we have good or bad luck but as was stated there is a certain amount of personal accountability in the outcome.
A saint might still get lung cancer even though they're saved and haven't smoked in years. The past still affected their health due to earlier poor choices.

Well the Bible says, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he..." and "Death and life lie in the power of the tongue..."
But good luck and bad luck?! As LC said earlier, it sounds like superstition to me.
right! If I go around with a negative attitude, my actions will follow and I will mess things up, spill things, drop things, hurt people's feeling and so on...because of my attitude... I have seen this...For those who tend to be on the negative side of life, it isn't bad luck, it's their own perspective. They can't see the good in life and they will only see what is wrong....their actions and their expectations will be along the same lines....
Just like those who see the good in life... They will find joy in hard times and they will make it thru... Their actions will also follow their outlook on life. They may mess up, but they will see it as a learning experience and they will make the best of it... It's not because they have good luck...

There are some people I have counseled with in the past who have a 'victim mentality' and I gave them cognitive behavioral therapy to change the way they look at the situations in their life, giving them a different feeling/attitude, which changes or gives them more positive behaviors.
But if you are a people watcher...you can truly see that some people really do have bad luck. What do you attribute this to? You can only partially blame the person involved...something else is surely going on, but for the life of me I have no answer to this dilemna.
Any thoughts on this subject?
I should probably read everyone else's comments so I don't repeat anything... oh well.
Ecclesiastes 9:11
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
Matthew 5:45
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Psalm 75:7
But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Just some thoughts. I don't believe in luck. I do believe in chance and coincidence occasionally, but I believe that the Child of God's life has been turned over to Him and He is at the helm, working it all together.
