Re: I had a "God Moment" tonight!
I just have a few minutes before I have to head back out for my interview, so I'll respond to some post above when I return.
I wanted to relay how my court drama went today.
I guess all those Perry Mason reruns I was watching trying to get a crash course in courtroom procedures didn't help me one bit. I paced the floors last night and this morning, doing my best Perry Mason to impress the hearing officer.
Well, the other party didn't even show up this morning, and I almost leaped up and shouted, "So, does that mean I win?". All I heard was, "Sit down Mister Collins and remember this is a serious legal proceeding". So, note to self, SETTLE DOWN!
After a few more preliminaries I was sworn in and my part of the deposition started. OK, I was giving a slew of warnings/instructions and told that anything I said that violated the warnings could be a deciding factor in the decision. No, problem.
Then the hearing officer, aka Devil's Spawn, who obviously didn't like the male species began her line of questioning. She started reading off numbers like 3-A, paragraph so and so and was this an accurate statement? Oh, well, where was that exactly. "MR. COLLINS, DID YOU OR DID YOU NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVING TO YOU REGARDING THESE PROCEEDINGS THIS MORNING?" I said, "Of course, I have them right here"....waiving them around in the air. "SO, YOU ANSWERED AFFIRMATIVE THAT YOU RECEIVED #BLAHBLAHBLAH, DATED BLAH BLAH BLAH?" I TOLD HER, "YYEESS! OH, NOW I SEE THAT 3-A paragraph, did you want me to follow along with you as you read from these pages?"
"THAT WAS THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVING MR. COLLINS, DO YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL ISSUES THAT PREVENT YOU FROM COMPREHENDING THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE", she yelled. "Well, it depends on who you ask, your honor"....second failed attempt at humor.
My attorney leaned over and said the she is the wrong judge to try and butter up, Mr. Collins, please just follow along with the line of questions and answers with short answers. Oh, OK.
That was the hardest thing for me to do because she kept yelling at me STOP GIVING ME A NARRATIVE...JUST ANSWER MY QUESTIONS! (Perry Mason was allowed to use narratives to build his case, boy things have change). "Oh, yes, your honor that was what I was doing, but being from Texas what may appear to be a narrative to some but acutally I was trying to give you the short answer!"....note, third attempt at humor fell flat too.
That was when after the stern look from my attorney that there was no way that I was going to be able to connect with this woman, which has been a knack I had mastered years ago, I soon realized that she may not be a female at all, but some sort of mutant from the far reaches of our Solar System.
Though I felt like I totally blew my chances at winning the case, my attorney told me that during this type of hearing, the only evidence that can be admissible was the evidence given to the court at the date of the hearing. Since, the other party, which was a first for them to be a no show, didn't call to reschedule or bother to call at all, it didn't mean I won, but my chances increased from around 40% up to around 85%. Of course, they still had the option for a final appeal within 15 days of receipt of the verdict.
Now, I am off for my interview. Update will follow.

He wasn't trying to humor a woman he was trying to humor a judge...
Only client I ever had crucified tried something like that, I kicked him under the table until I am sure his shin bled while he flirted his way into a 30 year sentence.( It was really bad strategy when up for charges of having relations with a minor)

If had kept his mouth shut, probation was a long shot, but I honestly think it would have been closer to 10 non-agg which would have probably put him out in 3 parole for 7, instead he is doing 15 minimum before eligible to apply.
But you are right, the judge could have given him life.
Anyway back to Kenneth, if YOUR lawyer ever starts giving you dirty looks pay attention next time. LOL

Yep. And don't try to make jokes at a parole hearing either. I learned that the hard way. Those people are way serious.

I told my attorney that when I get very nervous, I try to make things seem a little lighter by telling funny zingers! Hey, it has been an issue since I was a child. Call it a tic if it makes more sense.
My attorney submitted to the court medical notes that explained it all. She asked if I had been taken my medication and of course I had to stop taken many of them because of cost. My attorney said she seemed to calm down after their talk. Thank God!
My interview this afternoon was the best one yet! I had a really good feeling afterwards. I am tired and going to bed.
Nite..nite.

I explained the joking a little more in detail above. Yes, I told him to please don't take his eyes off of me. Among other things, I have bad anxiety attacks and I had a dozy today. I'll be able to get the majority of my medication again starting next week, so things will be much better.

I would have never blurted out the things I did if I had been on my meds. The judge understood later on.

Re: I had a "God Moment" tonight!
Good morning,
I read what I wrote last night and I had to admit that I was feeling a bit embarrassed. Some of that conversation between the judge and me was in my head. My attorney was aware of what happened and spoke on my behalf except when I had to give a statement and answer questions from the judge. She did state some of the things written last night, but many of those lame jokes only passed through my lips and never reached her ears.
Now, here is what happened:
I called the psychiatrist who had prescribed me a medication a while ago and I wanted to ask him if those could be taken to reduce my anxiety. He ask what other meds I was on, which is none, and he told me that they should have a calming affect on me but be sure that I only take two pills that day.
Well, I took the two pills as he prescribed, but I think the reason I was soon in Cartoon Land was because I took the two together. I knew that when I took them that year, I was taken three pills in the morning and three pills in the afternoon. Of course back then I had developed a tolerance much greater than the one I had yesterday. I kept looking at my poor attorney when those pills were in full effect saying, "Oh, oh, oh, this isn't good"! He probably will send me the biggest bill ever for the grief I put him through yesterday!
I could only imagine what those people thought of me when I interviewed with them yesterday. I am going to go hide now until church starts tonight!
