I guess you don't like the term "I have a word for you" either?

Just givin ya a hard time, Sis. Yeah, I have pet peeves, but they are more related to how apostolics do things than anything else. I can't stand being around church people for very long because I know they are on their best behaviour and trying to hide whatever faults they have for the sake of appearances. I also can't stand it that some people (usually whoever is up front) can't be satisfied with letting a service take on whatever life it's going to take on its own, so they start the pumping up cheerleader routine. Mainly I just wish church folks would be real enough to say what they are actually thinking, instead of saying what they think people want to hear. I can't stand phoniness. It drives me up the wall.

I knew I liked you.

I caused a stir on another site one time when I said I wasn't so sure I wanted to be called a Christian cuz most of 'em I knew weren't the sort of people I wanted to be associated with.

I have always been reluctant to be called Christian because it carries of connotation of being Christ-like, and I am not.

An aspiration and a goal to be more Christ-like yes, but arrived as a destination or state of being I have not.

Your post is interesting, as I've often thought almost on the same lines.

I'm noticing that when in leadership the people expect certain things from you - your manner, carriage, delivery, etc. If you don't deliver than they become disappointed and seem to lose confidence in you.

It is like the Saul thing - they want a king and they want him to look good.

Do you understand where I am coming from on this? I hope some can be candid on this.

Kind of reminds me of the G. Marx quote: "I wouldn't belong to any club that would have me for a member"

You can start on your quest to be Christlike by shaving off that mustache and beard!!!

Yeah, I know where you are coming from. I have realized that our traditional church model doesn't work for me. I've known that for some time but couldn't really come up with a workable solution to this dilemma. I finally decided that I am going to try the home group meeting route to see if it will work. We haven't had our first meeting yet, but things are in advanced planning stages. There is one other family that has agreed to meet with my family for worship, prayer, and Bible study. I am looking forward to it.
