I remember...LOL!

Jeannie posted pics of RevRandy's kids at a park and the beach. I noticed the immodestly dressed people who were abundant in those pics....hahaha!

WHY?????

I come to church in pants sometimes!!!! I wear earrings and cut hair to church!!!!! I need a mirror in front of me everywhere I go so I only judge one person.

I hate that I do that.

I hate that I see a woman in church and believe her to be Apostolic....until I see that she trims her hair.

I hate that I see a woman on the street who appears to be Apostolic.....until I see that she has a necklace on.

I hate that I see a man in a church with facial hair and wonder if he's a first-time visitor.....until I see that he's actually an usher.

I hate that I see myself as a open minded individual who really believes in what the Bible says....until I see myself through my own eyes...a disappointment in God's eyes.
I found that post REALLY interesting. I do that sometimes also. It seems that those who have studied things out and come to some of the more liberal conclusions that I can accept, but those who want to rebel, that bothers me. For example, if myself or my sister hear of or see a girl who cut their hair, we might begin to chat about the state of that girl's assembly and how the pastor is loosening the standards. But my sister and I don't believe in uncut hair. The thing is, if they study it out- fine, if they want to be rebellious or their assembly is not upholding the standards, without the process of study taking place, then we're concerned.
As for hating to see someone who looks Apostolic, but then seeing an exception to one of the rules, I see that as being because Apostolics usually have such a way of keeping standards, when you see someone looking Apostolic and then there's something that's out of order you think, "They're probably not Apostolic" and that's disappointing because the only other alternative is that they're lost. What can be disheartening, though, is when you see an Apostolic family, you approach them, and they look at you with suspicion, mention the Apostolic assembly they go to and then they look at you like you have 5 heads. If it's a group of women, I have my sister approach them, and it can still be awkward.... anyways

GOD BLESS!
Bro. Alex

Re: Your experience when you dropped "dress standa

My husband never ever preached this stuff, in or out of UPC. When we met, he was only 18, but he had studied all the teachings on standards and just couldn't find Scripture to justify preaching it. We remained in UPC for the first 11 years of his ministry, but we knew eventually we would be pushed out if we didn't go ahead and turn in the card. So in 1991 we opted to leave and God has blessed us tremendously ever since. Not that He wouldn't have blessed us in UPC, but leaving sure hasn't stopped Him from pouring out His favor.

Sherri, do you and hubby promote your church as being apostolic in doctrine? I am not asking the question as a slam. I just wondered about this. I guess what I am getting at is when someone asks you, "What kind of church do y'all pastor?", do you answer , "Apostolic."

No, because people don't understand that term at all, outside of Pentecostal ranks.

We tell them that we are a Bible believing, Spirit filled church where everyone is welcome.
(After they come, we hit them with that Holy Ghost stuff.) Ha!

It was no dice for us too. no wonder we never did anything with our neighbors...no way they would be convinced God even blinked at using dice to play Monopoly.

No playing cards either....no bowling or roller skating. Pool tables would punch your ticket to hell quicker tha adultery.

I came out from Standards as God revealed to me thru study and prayer that "our" interpretations of our "holiness scriptures" was some of the poorest exegesis of scripture .....well we got no room to talk about Mormons or Jehovahs witness'egetting it wrong.

I do I feel???? Freeatlast !!! ...and our church is growing in numbers and in wisdom and in strength.

Again, not asking as a slam, but an honest question. Is there any point at which you do describe yourselves as believing apostolic doctrine?

I guess the first thing I did was wear pants outside the house.

I agree perfectly. We saw alleged "standards" were extrabiblical or incorrect interpretations of scripture such as hair in 1 Cor 11. I was keeping standards for years without agreeing with them (not many do agree, folks), just because I was UPCI.

I remember having dinner with you and Eddie after one of the night services at BOTT in 1990 if memory serves me correct. You were UPC at the time but were not sure if you would be in the future.

This is what I mean by how my mind thinks because of how I was raised. See, I didn't think it was too low (in fact, I honestly didn't notice it at all) until you said that your pic was taken when you were still UPC.

I hate doing that. I want to change. But I was raised to be judgmental toward people and even though I don't do it outwardly anymore, my mind still does before I can stop it.

My apologies, Dar. I think you are beautiful and don't think you are immodest in that pic at all. Not that it would matter if I did think so anyway.
HO no offense taken. I know where you are coming from.
