Not all of us are letting go of everything Mark. Some of us just don't get into these threads.

In our church, you can plainly see who gives and who doesn't.. because those who don't give are always having financial problems, having their electricity turned off, asking for financial help from others, etc.... Those who give, are blessed.
There have been times when we have given more than we really could afford to give for a special need...because God told us to give that amount.... Then the following week, I'd have 10X or more given back to me. You just can't outgive God.

Besides if you want a place to gather and worship with like minded people you really need to tithe and give offerings.
I watched as my mother who made $80.00 a week for about 3 years paid her tithes faithfully. God met all of our needs and then some.
It may not show as a NT commandment but it certainly is a principle that is taught and stressed strongly throughout the Bible. My suggestion, stop robbing yourself of a blessing and follow the Patriarch Abraham's example and tithe.
Some people choke on a gnat and swallow a camel.
A Biblical principle should not have to be taught as a command and should not be fought against as oppression.

amen, and it is a biblical principle before the law... we should actually desire to give all that we can to the work of God or those who are in need.
I saw this video once... a man had a pie that God gave him... he opens the pie up and gives everything/one from cars, entertainment, kids, education a slice of pie to eat but never gives God a piece and God brought the pie in the first place. Kinda humorous, but true... everything we have is his to begin with.. and we can't give some of it back?

I am thankful that I am blessed and able to give my tithes. God has been more than good to me.

Re: Few Church Goers Tithe anymore study says
One thing I can remember about my FIL, when he was dying and couldn't go to church he made sure his tithes were paid, and that was carried out by my MIL after his death. My husband tithes on the gross. We have been down but never out. I remember once we were struggling raising 6 kids, a church friend brought us a hundred pounds of potatoes. And now we don't just tithe money, we also tithe what we produce in our garden and eggs from our chickens. And it is not cheap to tend a garden and feed chickens, chicken feed ain't chicken feed anymore (lol). Of course I guess it's easier to just give to the government, then you can complain about how bad the economy is, but you can't blame it on God. I figure maybe God doesn't want everyone's tithes anyway. If someone begrudges giving to Him he more than likely doesn't need it anyway. I am in no way condemning anyone that does not believe in paying tithes as that is between you and Him.

We give 10% of our income to the church, but we do not call it tithes, as we do not believe that it is a New Testament principle. Of course we believe in supporting our church with our funds- that is a New Testament principle- and 10% is a good measure to start with.

Linda Pateo of Gardendale, Ala., says she and her husband, Robert, try to give 5 percent of their income to their church and 5 percent to Christian charities, but it's difficult with three children in college.
"I have strong feelings that God expects first fruits," Pateo said. "Sometimes we fall short. It's something we are all called to do."
A recent poll by pollster George Barna shows that only 5 percent of Americans say they tithe, or give at least 10 percent of their income to religious congregations and charitable groups.

Kinda shoots holes in that whole "pastors are evil money-grubbing thieves" theory that some AFFers love to spout.

Sister, if you are giving 10% then it's a tithe, by definition.
